Whilst the pay is decent, it’s not worth your mental health.
The good thingsThe casual workers are nice .. to an extent.
The challengesOscar Wylee could improve its business performance and workplace culture by taking a firm, transparent stance against workplace b*llying, especially when it involves leadership. This includes holding all staff, including the business owner, to the same behavioural standards and implementing clear accountability measures. Additionally, strengthening the HR function to ensure employee complaints are taken seriously, handled confidentially, and followed through with meaningful action would build trust and morale. A safe, supportive work environment not only protects employees but also leads to higher retention, better customer service, and stronger overall business outcomes.

    Great work environment
The good thingsGreat colleagues and competitive pay. Good working environment, and everyone likes to help each other out like a team. Most equipment is automated, which simplifies tasks, so it makes it easier to do the job
The challengesSometimes inconsistent shifts for casuals.

Only work here as a casual/ temporary position. Eventually the mismanagement, culture will erode your mental health
The good thingsI loved the team I worked with!
The challengesHead office micromanages but doesn't support you when you need it. Didn't get compensated for taking on extra duties even though it was expected of me. Put skeleton staff on to cut cost of our lunch break and mental health.

Supportive Culture, Strong Team, and Real Opportunities.
The good thingsEnvironment is a huge thing for me, so I've made it a happy, calm and enjoyable place to be. My team is incredible and work super hard. The area Manager is amazing and so helpful. The system is easy to use, it has some glitches sometimes but it's still very good.
The challengesIt's not a super busy store. But I guess most people would say that's a positive thing too. :)

I’ve had the pleasure of training and working at two really well run stores that have a great reputation among customers and employees.
The good thingsTraining is thorough, you are paid for all the training and encouraged to take your time to learn properly, not rushed through and thrown in the deep end. You aren’t pressured to make sales and targets as much as other sales positions, customer service is geniunely a priority at both stores I’ve worked at.
The challengesGetting enough hours as a casual, but that’s really anywhere especially during the quieter times between holidays and rushes.

No care for remote stores or staff at all
The good thingsThe free glasses every 6 months - you can get lens thinning and other add ons for free
The challengesHigher management are not interested with being hands on with remote stores - they only speak to you if you are not making money - they offer no support - take 3 days to return a phone call - leave your messages on read and will reply at a time that suits them not urgent at all - the pay is bare minimum - they over work you - think all training can be done on google meets - incredibly passive aggressive behaviour displayed from area managers

Company says Integrity is their core value but it couldn't be further away from the truth
The good thingsGood staff to work with Free pair of glasses every 6 months
The challengesTop management consists of people who think making bad jokes makes them likeable and are not aware of how unprofessional they are Pay is low and no real progression or appreciation People in management talk bad of most staff and managers if they don't like them

It was really great experience. I love working for Oscar Wylee.
The good thingsThe management is open for suggestions and always willing to listen what we have to suggest. Great work life balance. Collegues are friendly and always willing to help during my first few weeks at work.
The challengesNothing much to mention. It would be great if there is more employee engagement activities done, so We can get to know collegues from other stores better.

Oscar Wylee is a great learning experience as it leaves you with skills and knowledge about optics that will never leave you!
The good thingsI enjoyed the health aspect of working at Oscar Wylee and learning all about how to find the perfect frame!
The challengesIt can be challenging sometimes to find the perfect lens option and frames for a customer as everyone is different and people have their own unique preferences. There can be a lot of trouble-shooting in optics!! Also, managing peak hour rush and holiday periods can be a bit challenging at times.

would not recommend this to anybody, especially those who come from higher end optical backgrounds i.e OPSM, Specsavers, etc.
The good thingswould probably be the team you work with and the free pair of glasses.
The challengesthe management is bloody terrible, all very inexperienced and have no optical knowledge. payroll is terrible to deal with and messes up A LOT, using your leave balance without your permission, etc. the company is a mess and people leave very frequently.
