    You should really think twice
The good thingsWork is versatile offering a variety of different tasks and opportunities to build new skills. Job can be rewarding when there is enough time to produce quality work. There are some really fantastic, friendly and bright people on the ground, the office facilities are nice and it's close to public transport.
The challengesLow pay, large pay discrepancies between people in same roles, high volume of work (expect to give up nights/weekends as some deadlines require it), lots of burnout. Large drop in the quality of products due to increasing business pressure each year to get to market earlier without supporting the team to feasibly do the job to a high standard. Some senior management are largely disconnected from teams they lead which creates a culture of many individuals feeling unsupported. Staff feedback responded to with band-aid solutions, buzzwords or nothing tangible. Many people here would prefer to work somewhere else and can't imagine staying in the job for too much longer explaining the high turnover. I also experienced some strange, inequitable treatment during my time in this role but honestly it isn't that surprising after reading reviews about senior management on other sites. Don't be surprised if a high star review comes in after this, that's the type of place this is...

This hasn’t been my experience. OUP is supportive, with great people and leadership.
The good thingsI really enjoy being part of the team. There’s a lot of knowledge, commitment, and also a good sense of fun, which makes it a great place to work. I have learned a lot since joining and have been supported to move into a different team.
The challengesEveryone works hard and cares about what they do, but it can be stressful at times when deadlines are tight, but everyone pulls together and helps each other out. It’s nice to be part of a team that’s committed and knows the work we’re doing makes a difference.

Neglectful senior management take much of the joy of working here away.
The good thingsOther staff can be quite pleasant. Hybrid working conditions and the office location are beneficial.
The challengesThere is no organisation. There is no thought given to the wellbeing of employees. Salaries are poor and a number of staff are in financial strain. People in high-up positions are quite disconnected from the rest of the workforce. When issues are brought up, they are taken personally and never resolved or taken seriously, often leaving the person feeling ostracised. Our output as a company is actively decreasing in quality due to pressures from senior management. We are not non-for-profit - money is all these people talk about. No one cares about education or educators.

Supportive team, but poor communication and lack of professionalism from leadership
The good thingsMy team was supportive, talented, and truly made the job worthwhile.
The challengesWhile my team was supportive and talented, leadership often lacked transparency and professionalism, and HR was largely absent and at times unconstructive. Constructive feedback was not well received by a direct manager, and the overall environment did not reflect integrity or genuine communication. Not a good place to work if you value professionalism and honesty.

A waste of time I'm still recovering from. Unlearning trauma from this toxic workplace is a process.
The good thingsSome of the people, but given the high turnover, that was only temporary.
The challengesThe entire environment is toxic. High turnover is almost all departments. Micro management is standard practice. Employees aren't valued, hence the high turnover.

Dynamic, energised culture where you can progress your career
The good things- A dynamic and energised environment where strong performance is celebrated and recognised at all levels - An awesome, motivated group of smart people who are all driving forward a common goal across the organisation and who are committed to education and learning - A fun, supportive finance team who focus on adding business value, process improvement and mentoring and knowledge building for all team members

    Proceed with caution
The good thingsGood people, good mission, good office, work from home friday.
The challengesLow pay (which staff are reprimanded for speaking about), no union, huge workloads, no support for reasonable accommodations (no onshore HR). There has been a shift the last few years from an enjoyable place to work to a stressful, burnout mess. Turnover is very high.

Avoid working here, it will ruin you.
The good thingsHybrid working and office close to PTV. People are friendly enough. Freedom to work on a variety of things.
The challengesUnorganised chaos. Structures and processes are non existent. Everyone works ridiculous hours, office has no culture nor social acidivties. High churn and burn out.

Fine as an interim employer, but don't rely on them to support you as a person with a life beyond the job.
The good thingsOpportunities to meet with authors and stakeholders, collaboration between teams was mostly good and social events for employees were often great ways to connect and have fun.
The challengesLong hours, no real work/life balance due to timelines and cost constraints. But by far the biggest callout is the employer and management's lack of empathy for employees who needed to take extended emergency or carer's leave. When it mattered to have the support of the employer and management in a difficult time, any support or understanding was stripped away without any remorse, sympathy or care.

One of the worst places I have worked
The good thingsI didn't have many good experiences here.
The challengesI was surprised by the rude, unprofessional behaviour from some people in the workplace - it shows what the culture is really like. There is a really high turnover rate.

Never a dull moment and always learning something new!
The good thingsThe people at OUP are a diverse, supportive, friendly and dedicated bunch. This is an environment where you are encouraged to learn and develop, which I love.
The challengesThere are some challenges associated with being a regional office of a large global organisation (international freight for example!), but on the whole I feel very positive about my job and the direction in which OUP is heading.

A refreshing and rewarding experience overall
The good things- The organisation's commitment to growth, innovation and productivity while ensuring simplicity, transparency and integrity in its day-to-day machinations and interactions - The organisation's commitment to its customers (teachers and students) and staff - Talented and hard-working colleagues - Engaged, hard-working and approachable senior-management team
The challengesFrom time to time, one experiences challenges that come with working in any environment. Nothing stands out in particular.

I am really starting to enjoy being part of the OUP family. Our Director leads with passion, clarity & heart with lots of exciting & challenging changes in the wind to help us to continue to advance learning. It took a while to adjust to the global timescale however I have been able to work around the needs of me & my family which I am so grateful for. Highly recommend Oxford Australia to others.
The good thingsLocally run branch of a global business connecting us to the world of learning, with opportunities to move roles across the globes should the right position become available. Heart felt mission, great people & leaders. Value of work/life balance, with opportunity to purchase up to two weeks additional leave. Modern office <5 minute walk to Southern Cross Station. Flexible working hours to accommodate global working commitments & evening meetings.
The challengesTight publishing cycles & deadlines.

    Don't join marketing.
The good thingsNice new office in the city.
The challengesMarketing is like a revolving door. Nearly everyone in the division has left in the recent past. When they recruit they advertise a great future, growth and "perks" in exchange for the pathetic pay rates. It's only once you are in you realise most of that is fluff and exaggerated.

Great organisation to work for, would recommend to anyone.
The good thingsThe organisation was welcoming, supportive and friendly from the very 1st day I started and I couldn't ask for anything more. This was at every level and in every state, it was so nice to be welcomed as it made it easy to transition into a new company and with new people which, can be quite overwhelming. The communication was excellent and this was put to the test when COVID-19 hit our shores and with the subsequent lockdowns. The leadership team made it a priority to keep the whole business up to date with a daily communication, letting everone know what was going on within each state, the type of support available for staff and customers. Mental health & well being was a priority and it was sincere. COVID was and still is a very dificult time but OUP found a way to keep people connected, even during business hours there were ample opportunities for people to connect remotely, to socialise and have fun during our most difficult times. Daily comms, monthly staff meetings and remote social activities are just some examples of the communication and togetherness. Opportunities to keep learning new skills, to develop and to progress have been an ongoing theme and it has been great to see not only myself but other colleagues enjoy the opportunities to do new things. The company has been open, great at communicating, transparent, supportive, diverse and inclusive. I would highly recommend OUP to anyone looking for a new job!
The challengesOriginally certain roles were head office based which was challenging & frustrating if you didn't want to uproot your life/family but with the pandemic, the organisation turned head office roles into remote roles. Unable to travel to see colleagues due to COVID-19.

The good thingsgood flexibility around work and home. I made some good friends while working here. also a decent brand name on your cv.
The challengesthe issues already posted here are sadly valid. a lot of effort goes into covering them up with conveniently massaged explanations/reviews. if half that effort actually went into addressing them, the business will be unrecognisable.

    Fantastic! Support, support support.
The good thingsOUP is a fantastic place to work with great staff. The people are included in looked after is second to none. Fantastic support during difficult times can sometimes be overlooked by large companies but this is not the case with OUP.
The challengesNo real challenges. Working remotely from the HO is actually better than any company I've worked with due to the communication from there flooding out to the 'out of Melbourne' staff.

The good thingsThe people at OUP are the best. Everyone is friendly, supportive and very talented. There are opportunities to develop within your role and perks like having a wellbeing program make it a great place to work.

HR Business PartnerThanks so much for your feedback. I’m happy to hear how much you value the OUP team as well as the opportunities and benefits we offer. As a small branch of a larger, international enterprise, it can be quite difficult to communicate readily with our UK-based HQ. This is definitely something that we recognise and continue to work towards mitigating. We always strive to manage ANZ strategy, publishing, sales, marketing, and personnel on a local and empathetic level. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you feel there's anything else we could improve on. - Deb Stewart, HR Business Partner

Director Marketing & CXThanks very much for taking the time comment on your experience with OUP. I’m really glad you value our mission and flexible working arrangements. I agree, we have a great team! Despite the challenges of remote working everyone has continued to be highly collaborative, productive and motivated. I’m so proud of each and every member of the team and what we have achieved. You’re also right in that we are a small branch of OUP and the majority of OUP’s workforce and career opportunities are based overseas. That said, we’re increasingly seeing international roles being based out of Australia, and a large proportion of the ANZ marketing team are leading or contributing to significant global projects and initiatives. I’m glad to hear that, in the main, we’re hitting the mark. If you feel there’s anything else we can improve on, please do let me know. Carmen Gould, Director Marketing & CX

Enjoyable, challenging career, with dedicated and caring colleagues and a management team that works hard to ensure people feel valued and heard.
The good thingsCreative and challenging work, mission-led respected brand with genuine care for education, ambitious business working to grow and evolve, high-performing and supportive colleagues, plenty of opportunities for gaining additional experience if you're keen to develop. Fair and communicative management, whose handling of the impacts of COVID has been second to none - transparent contingency planning, and plenty of care, support and flexibility for personal circumstances.
