The perfect first job to feel welcome and useful, but difficult after a few months when systems are so outdated.
The good things- awesome coworkers and culture
The challenges- disorganized management - late rosters - outdated and slow till the systems - questionable food safety

Could be a great company if they cared about their workers.
The good thingsEmployee perks - tickets and bar discounts. Flexibility is mostly there when needed.
The challengesPushing their staff to take over multiple roles without extra benefits, internal culture is non existent, will be left to your own devices yet simultaneously scrutinised for your department.

Working in the Festivals team at Palace Cinemas was a fantastic experience for me. Knowing that I was contributing to the cultural and cinematic richness of Sydney was something that made me feel proud every single day I went to work.
The good thingsBy becoming the first festival team member in Sydney, it was a great experience to get to shape the role and set up a nice structure/ system. Being exposed to several cultures, suppliers, outlets, films... was simply magical.
The challengesIt felt like a ´lonely journey´ at times, but that´s the perk of being based in a different city from the rest of the team. It helped me grow and mature professionally 100%.

    Didn't love it
The good things- Free movies - Yeah, free movies? - Good hourly pay for casuals
The challenges- Poor head office culture down - Constant film festivals - Cuts a lot of corners. Feel like there were some shady things being done, or things NOT being done that should've been. - Cliquey team culture, good luck trying to get along with people who have been there years and feel like you owe them something.

Fine for a few months and decent perks, but don’t expect hard work to be recognized too often.
The good thingsFree movies and discounts on food and drink.
The challengesVery limited opportunities for further development. HR very inconsistent with communication. Management clearly disillusioned and a generally unmotivating atmosphere.

The good thingsSeeing people leave a theatre happy with their experience. Great family atmosphere within the company. Always made time for you, no matter their position.

It is hard work but it has great rewards and gives you a work family.
The good thingsThe perks are great! If you show passion and dedication it is rewarded. This isn't the place for someone who's heart isn't in it because cinema is crazy but the team definitely becomes your family and the experience bonds you. Quite flexible hours and fair rostering. Pay is above award but you work for it.
The challengesYou have to be multi-skilled, resilient, and really want to do your best for the customer, even when they make it REALLY hard for you to be nice to them. You absolutely have to be a team player and pull your weight. Weekend work and late nights (it's cinema...)
