I will miss my coworkers the most at Paradise!
The good thingsI really enjoyed working here on my WHV and would recommend to anyone looking for a casual job in Surfer’s Paradise! The team in the Food and Beverage (really all over, honestly!) is great here. Really awesome coworkers, a fun group to be around, and good support from management. I really think the F&B management team here does a good job of supporting staff but not micromanaging! All my coworkers, FOH, BOH, and management were always willing to help, no matter what the task was. I will miss working here, for sure!
The challengesI was hired as a barista but ended up working just as many food and beverage attendant shifts. At first it was frustrating because I wanted to make coffees, but once the crew got used to me, I was able to have fun working in every position, and it was kind of nice not doing the same job every day. But I just want it to be clearer from management when you’re hired that you’re going to be expected to do a wide variety of jobs and tasks, and not just what you think you were hired for. Bartenders don’t just make drinks, same for baristas, every job that needs to get done gets done by everyone here.

A place to work for a very short time until you find something else. Poor management a dealbreaker.
The good thingsStaff around the resort are very friendly and helpful. As far as maintenance roles go, the work is quite diverse and varied.
The challengesAs others who worked in maintenance at Paradise have described in the reviews, unfortunately the management within the maintenance department is a shambles. In the 4 or 5 months I worked at Paradise, I saw 6 maintenance staff come and go, pretty much always poor management being the reason - the maintenance department at Paradise is renowned for this across the whole resort, as well as other hotels and resorts across the Gold Coast looking upon Paradise in this way. The manager and supervisor have minimal industry experience and lack basic people skills and empathy. There is minimal support offered on a day-to-day basis and yet there is a big micromanaging problem, despite the unwillingness of the supervisor to do any work to help out when days are full on and you're sprinting around the resort doing 30+ jobs a day. When speaking with maintenance management about this and asked for a little help, you'll be dismissed and intimidation tactics will be used.

    A great place to work
The good thingsThe culture and benefits here are fantastic. The whole team is great to work with and there’s strong support for upskilling, career variety, and growth.
The challengesSometimes there can be bit of a ‘seniority knows best’ that can overshadow ideas from newer team members

Very, very busy, but in the end, frustrating and unrewarding.
The good thingsGenerally happy environment amongst patrons. Plenty of work to do. Good bunch of blokes to work with, mostly trying to do their best despite some significant managerial disadvantages.
The challengesTerrible management at base level. Totally unskilled in the work being managed. No idea about management of manpower time and skills, or communications. No training for unskilled staff, particularly labourers. Dangerous. Divisive and incompetent.

Amazing and life changing, I would not be where I am today without this place.
The good thingsOverall it was one of the best jobs I have ever had, everyone was so welcoming, helpful and overall great at their own jobs. I had great training and was able to work in three departments to enhance my skills, and get work experience. I miss working here and if I was ever back in QLD I would apply again for a job.
The challengesThe only real challenges is it can be a little slow during off peak seasons, but they always give as many shifts as possible.
