Poor Work Culture and Unsupportive HR Team
The good thingsPay was decent & housing provided was great
The challengesLeadership Team constantly undermined employees and will track their staff. Not a supportive culture at all. Managers will undermine employees to make themselves appear better Will provide false promises on recruitment process.

Supportive team, growth opportunities, and a culture of improvement. Please bring back WFH for all.
The good thingsThis is the first workplace where everyone I interact with is genuinely supportive and eager to help. The Recruitment team demonstrates an incredible ability to find people who fit the culture perfectly. My team is outstanding, collaborative, encouraging, and always willing to assist – and this sense of support extends across Pilbara Ports. I feel valued in my role and have access to continuous learning and development opportunities, which allow me to grow professionally. Pilbara Ports’ commitment to improvement is evident from day one, and it creates an environment where progress is a shared priority.
The challengesOver the past few years, several Perth-based employee benefits have been reduced, which can feel disheartening. While flexible working arrangements are still available and I’m grateful for that, it’s challenging knowing that some colleagues cannot access this option. Although the benefits for Perth employees are limited, the Pilbara region offers excellent incentives. Striving for more fair benefits across locations would further enhance employee satisfaction. Even with these areas for improvement, I truly enjoy my job because of the people I work with. Their support and positivity make all the difference.

You are seen, you are valued, you can grow!
The good thingsThe rental and utilities support in our regional areas is just one of the generous financial benefits of the role. There's also excellent flexibility and strong support from leadership across all sites. At Pilbara Ports, what truly makes coming to work worthwhile is the people. You’re surrounded by great colleagues who strive to create positive change, welcome new ideas, and are genuinely friendly. They make you feel valued as a person, not just a number. Pilbara Ports has grown—and continues to grow—into a workplace where you feel seen, heard, and appreciated.
The challengesWhile the regional offices (Port Hedland and Dampier) offer excellent flexibility, the Perth corporate office operates a little differently. Work-life balance and remote work options may vary depending on team needs and managerial approval. Having a supportive manager can make it easier to accommodate working-from-home arrangements and maintain flexibility.

A supportive workplace where you genuinely want to come to work every day
The good thingsPilbara Ports has a strong commitment to safety and wellbeing, which is embedded in its culture and leadership practices. There are clear frameworks for leadership capability and professional development, and HR initiatives are aligned with organisational values, making it rewarding to contribute to workforce planning and capability building.

Great people, plenty of growth, and a focus on doing things better
The good thingsWhat I’ve enjoyed most about working at Pilbara Ports is being part of a team of great people who genuinely collaborate and support each other. There’s a strong focus on continuous improvement, which means we’re always looking for better ways to work and innovate. I’ve also appreciated the opportunities to grow, whether through new projects, learning programs, or career development pathways.
The challengesLike any growing organisation, the systems don’t talk to each other, which can mean a bit of extra work. The good thing is the team is always looking for ways to make things better, so there’s a real focus on improving processes and making life easier for everyone.

Think Twice Before You Leap: Applying to This Employer!
The good thingsThis employer in the Pilbara region offers subsidised housing, utility bills, a location allowance, and extra superannuation contributions.
The challengesThe workplace is challenging, with a culture of complacency and dishonesty permeating all levels of the organisation. The learning curve is steep due to the cunning nature of employees, and there’s a disconnect between managers and highly educated employees. Management lacks accountability, and constructive feedback often leads to retaliation. The workplace could be more inclusive, as long-standing employees hold significant influence and there seems to be a preference for certain individuals. The most challenging aspect is navigating this adversarial environment, leading to a feeling of alienation. Despite these obstacles, each experience is a chance for growth, bolstering resilience and the ability to handle complex dynamics. However, substantial changes are needed to foster a more inclusive, respectful, and efficient workplace.

ICT operations is practically run by 1 external contractor - who thinks he is indispensable - and who influences all the decisions that the ICT superintendents make.
The good thingsThe onboarding experience and welcoming staff.
The challengesIt's a case of "too many Chiefs not enough Indians". The Chiefs sit back and don't do any work and only point out to others what you have to do.

Interesting, challenging and a work environment that influenced you to think outside the square.
The good thingsWork was interesting, challenging & varied in an amazing location. The opportunities for travel throughout the state were there & there were also excellent opportunities for training in new work environments outside of your regular work requirements as being a busy working port there was emergency situations training requirements for all staff in an all for one team work ethic. Wonderful staff & very good management who were very supportive & progressive.
The challengesThe northern environment of heat & remote locations may not suit all
