Exercise caution with Redpath! There is a pressing issue with the effectiveness of management/safety team. In practice, their performance often falls short, functioning more as a superficial front rather than a genuinely proactive force. A comprehensive, immediate retraining program across all sites—from management to frontline workers—is very much in need to fostering a stronger safety culture and addressing these shortcomings. If possible, explore opportunities with companies that demonstrate a genuine commitment to safety. Should you choose to join, it may be wise to gain experience and then transition to an organization that truly upholds its duty of care. Be wary of surface-level safety discussions—once you're underground, those principles are often disregarded. Attempting to maintain high safety standards can leave you at odds with the work culture, as the primary focus is overwhelmingly on hitting production targets rather than ensuring worker well-being.
The good thingsThe opportunity to work alongside skilled colleagues is a definite highlight. There are some great people that work within the company.
The challengesMany issues are overlooked, hazardous working conditions persist, with requests for improved PPE consistently ignored. The source of the problem lies in management, whose disregard for safety sets the tone and norm. It's only a matter of time before there's a casualty - that is the harsh reality
