Excellent pay, but be prepared for a stagnant culture and high bureaucratic friction.
The good thingsExceptionally competitive compensation and benefits package. The financial security is among the best in the industry.
The challengesHeavy over-reliance on external vendors leads to a hollowed-out internal knowledge base. There is a significant disconnect between executive leadership and "on the ground" operations. Innovation is often stifled by a "we’ve always done it this way" mentality from long-tenured staff, making it difficult to implement industry-standard best practices.

Great people on the ground but superintendents and above don’t care about you
The good thingsGreat team. The people on the tools are always down to earth, great guys.
The challengesComplete lack of support from above. Superintendents pass the buck, communicate poorly and throw you under the bus at every opportunity

The good thingsGood days were great but there weren't too many of them.
The challengesManagement's inability to coordinate training programs, decisions made after relevant people have put in for leave, high numbers on stress leave, general toxic environment on the mine site.

Challenging environment that rewards the status quo
The good things9-day fortnight. Share scheme. Opportunities for Perth and Brisbane-based employees and those willing to relocate to new (often remote) locations every couple years. Large portfolios meant exposure to varied work. Autonomy. Some impressive senior people.
The challengesA culture that expects significant unpaid overtime as a baseline. Travel was expected in personal time. Overly complex matrix structure that created an isolating & psychologically unsafe environment for Functions staff on site locations. Unfair, inconsistent treatment across different business units

Great company incentives for long-term, regretting leaving to Fortescue after a decade service to this top tier firm.
The good thingsGood culture, strong technical teams, and hard-working.
The challengesOver the past 10 years, we've faced issues with poor-quality camp food and have been working on getting management approvals for refurbishing aging assets.

Gladstone QLD 4680Less than 1 year in the role, former employee
Challenging, although very rewarding with endless opportunity if willing to work for it.
The good thingsSafety oriented organisational work practices, professionally designed facility lay-outs, clearly distinguished markings for different zones around the facility - work-areas / stand-down areas / management / medical stations (and/or staff) / PPE boxes / safety material marked adequately for clear, hassle-free visual identification and opportunity to familiarise these zones whilst working in or around the facility.
The challengesAdjusting to intensively diverse work conditions whilst understanding your responsibility and adherence to an extensive list of safety precautions, practices and pre-requisites in a short amount of time; whilst your are expected to hold them to a precisely adequate understanding, this understanding will be challenged at some sites - ensure you keep updated with site material and alerts/ongoings - Important site information is frequently shared at toolbox meetings held by each work group, or by a leadership representative/supervisor which would be shared to all company / sub-contracted work groups together, prior to commencing your work.

    Diversity KPI Chasers
The good thingsDecent Pay Safe work environment Good Roster
The challengesLimited career opportunities due to the company chasing diversity KPIs at the expense of experienced workers. Will carrot and stick people for years, and give promotions to those that have barely come out of probation. Poor company housing.

The good thingsExcellent Sick leave policy, 3 months every year on top of A/L, they don’t tell you this when you start but. No rush to do a job
The challengesSalary & bonuses could be higher. Out of the big 4 mining companies, it’s below average. However you’re compensated through your Sick leave. Nothing is really hard to do here, just follow the rules & you’ll do fine

Disappointed that such a big company has so many cultural issues
The good thingsLots of opportunities within the company to move around, great benefits such as health insurance subsidy, 3 months personal leave, share matching scheme
The challengesCulture wasn't great, lots of disrespect between leaders and their subordinates (can give multiple examples of what I witnessed). Report things and HR sweeps it under the carpet.
