30 years experience as a SAS professional specialist. 8 years working for SAS Institute Australia
The good thingsFree snacks. Good on the CV. Good 'sink or swim' experience to be an independent SAS consultant.
The challengesExtreemly high staff turnover. You need to devote 24/7 literally and resign before you burn out. Incompetent management are entirely self serving, commonly setting up expendable internal and external partners. So tread very carefully and NEVER be a partner organisation/individual. Unfortunately entirely self focused sales mentality. Will do anything for a large sale and leave customers with no further sales opportunity high and dry, holding an extremely expensive annual bill. Customer satisfaction is only a sales tool and unfortunately very in-genuine. The programming language itself is still very powerful although SAS always lags 5 years behind Industry and new technology. The internal organisational structure and mentality around the development and implementation of their software is incompatible with modern innovative and customer support needs. Not at all the future proof cash cow it once was.

The challengesThe sales / consulting divide (in terms of culture and thinking) forces us all to come up with a new language to facilitate working together as well as the consulting team works with its constituent members
