A Traineeship Through SSI - Totally Worthwhile
The good thingsProfessional and supportive staff. Completing my traineeship - both the learning component and placement with my host employer. Developing my skills and confidence through strong and supportive work relationships.
The challengesOpportunities through SSI for paid work and training beyond my traineeship i.e. to build on what I've done. A dedicated assistance program to support trainees into long-term employment would be excellent.

Working with a clear purpose and values driven people has been rewarding and fulfilling.
The good thingsWorking with passionate people consistently striving to achieve positive experiences and outcomes for vulnerable or marginalised people within the community.
The challengesFluctuating budgets and reactivity in response to pressures or other priorities would result in plans being shelved. Adjustments in focus would create time based pressures and resourcing constraints which could be challenging to navigate and were sometimes unavoidable, but nevertheless, had an impact on people and teams.

I feel heard, respected and valued at SSI
The good thingsSSI is a multicultural working environment. Working here is an enriching experiencing, allowing staff to learn about perspectives and traditions from around the world. Bonding over similarities and differences, abandoning prejudices or an ethnocentric world view—which is something that is increasingly valuable.
The challengesAs SSI spans over 3 states is it hard to connect with all staff regulary.

    Don’t bother
The good thingsFloor staff are nice.
The challengesNo training or learning provided. Onus always on employee. Management more concerned about pleasing upper management than advocating for their workers. Lack of care or respect given to workers. There’s a general vibe that employees do not like working here. Waste of time.

Started great, moving in right direction ended poor
The good thingsThe pay is great, they even pay others who don’t know what they are doing and work like a sloth.
The challengesWorking with others who are not qualified nor have the experience to work in this sector is a big challenge. Another challenge is working with others who don’t have the capacity to identify child protection concerns and are more focused on protecting the reputation of communities
