Avoid. The perception & the reality are vastly different. You only discover after taking on the job
The good thingsSome good, professional people.
The challengesTerrible management. Out of touch, zero empathy and six day weeks for poor pay. Horrible place to work overall.

    Ok for a short time
The good thingsIt can be a good place to get some experience in data entry/admin.
The challengesMassive turn over of staff. Its just relentless. Constantly training new people. If you stay longer than 6 months you are now a veteran. I think that could be easily solved by paying a livable wage. The workload is large and fairly brainless.

Completely lost trust that management are there to support.
The good thingsWas able to attend fun charity and sporting events.
The challengesThe way the team is managed needs to be majorly overhauled. There is too much of a focus on perfection and perception to the market which has a negative effect on the team internally. There is an attempt to show that they care about your progression but they are prepared to turn away from you the minute things gets too hard.

Good place for networking and developing skills, but the office vibe and workload were a let-down
The good thingsIf you enjoy building stakeholder relationships, this role is for you. Opportunity to participate in industry events. Good variety of tasks every day, most days consist of something different so it doesn't get boring. Good opportunity to network.
The challengesManagement was lacking during my initial weeks, and the support felt minimal. Training consists of tedious modules and occasional 1-on-1 sessions. A bit of a clique mentality in the office, and it wasn't the friendliest place to work. Large workload with little reward.

One sentence lets go one word = Horrific
The good thingsUnfortunately only have good things to say prior to the new manager's arrival
The challengesStaff Morale, Working environment, Better management, Better HR, Better hiring process so when new people start existing staff don't leave due to bad judgement of character

Put me off working in Media ever again after 10 years in the industry.
The good thingsGood manager who was genuinely interested in building a good (small) team culture between News & Sales. The people I directly worked with were great.
The challengesFocused on revenue and their reputation. Terrible pay for the expected work and hours you put in (although better commission than our metro counterparts), and the kicker was that some of my salary each month went towards subsidising my clients to go on trips, living it up with management. Constantly cutting staff as they outsource functions to the Philippines. Constantly creating new roles in Sydney for more managers and directors. Old and outdated processes and software/tech. Despite the rhetoric of how 'progressive' a company they are, and how 'supportive' they are of female/diverse/LGBTQ+ identifying employees, it's still a boys club for white men, and women who act like those same white men.

Don't work here! Awful experience.Traumatising. The work itself was actually good, but the staff and management could use a serious ego check. "Some" long nights = every single night. Insane lack of communication.

    Disappointing experience.
The good thingsCompany profile looks good on resume. Met some great coworkers that will be friends for life.
The challengesToxic work environment and poor office culture. Incredible workload with little to no support. Bonus and base wage structure does not reflect the work expectation. High staff turnover. Outdated systems and processes. No accountability placed on management for their behaviour or performance.

    Empty promises and lies
The good thingsI worked with some great people within the office that tried to support me despite flack from management.
The challengesLittle to no support for career progression, will employ people from major cities to fill positions in regional areas instead of hiring local talent. Was promised a full time role after 2 months of 'work experience'.

The challengesCompletely out of touch management, no sense of direction, unrealistic expectations and very little room for career progression.

Baffling how a company claiming to be at the forefront of the digital space can be so backward.
The good thingsSome great and talented people do work here. But they're usually undervalued, underappreciated and overworked.
The challengesBackwards management, smokescreen of innovation masking a complete lack of direction, managers who have no clue about managing people or their departments, senior management focussed on the wrong growth areas in the media landscape.star

Great place for career growth & opportunity
The good thingsNo other Media Organisation in Perth can offer the level of career opportunities that SWM can. The Advertising team is the biggest in WA with a lot of roles & specialities. SWM is also imbedded within the community connecting & giving back to the people in WA. As a staff member that means you can volunteer with things like Telethon and be a part of that too.
The challengesIt is a high performing culture which isn't for everyone. But if you are the type of person that wants to grow your career & deliver amazing results... you won't have an issue.

Would not recommend to my worst enemy
The good thingsGood staff in other areas and departments that provided comic relief and support during awful times.
The challengesUnreasonable workloads and expectations, extreme lack of empathy and care from management with no assistance and a constant source of fear and dread. Management refused to listen to feedback, accept any other ideas, and would treat staff awfully. No wonder there's such a high turnover. Was unable to address my concerns with HR or management as I was not listened to, or offered an exit interview.

Enjoying the role and company and plan to continue.
The good thingsI've only been with the company for a short time but have enjoyed my time so far and found everyone to be friendly and supportive. Media is evolving and Seven are aware of this and taking steps to evolve the business to match.
The challengesEvery role/organisation experiences challenges and Seven is no different. Systems, processes and communication can all be improved but I have found that in other jobs too. Nothing that can't be overcome with teamwork and support, which is available.

Amazing experience for a young journalist in a supportive newsroom.
The good thingsInvaluable experience in a high-functioning newsroom. Mentors and producers are very helpful and supportive. Amazing opportunity to develop journalism skills. Was able to clock-off as soon as my work was complete.
The challengesVery fast-paced environment. Strict deadlines.

Awful, I wasted the best years of my life here
The good thingsThe people I worked with were great
The challengesThe low pay! I have to laugh when I see 'competitive salary' written on new job ads. What a load of bunkam. You aren't given yearly increases in line with CPI. Instead, you have to fight tooth and nail for tiny increases to pay - I had three pay increases over 10 years.

Fast paced but a toxic culture
The good thingsIt was fast paced and a great place to learn. They paid for training and were willing to let me get involved in projects which tested my skills.
The challengesThe workplace culture is not great. When I look back on my experience, I realise just how badly I didn't see the toxicity. There are also many powerful personalities, both in the department I was in and in other areas that put everyone down. Also due to the age of the company and how much is going on, there is a lot to learn. It's information overload which took me a while to learn but I believe it did help me in the end.

It's been a great journey so far.
The good thingsPeople are great and supportive. There is a diverse bunch of people who work collaboratively and want to be creative.
The challengesI can only speak for myself, there is limited space for growth or transition to other areas or it can take time. There can be a lot of pressure to get things done pronto. It is expected as it is TV.

Low salary meant I had no choice to leave. Met some great people, but the pay is terrible.
    The good thingsFriendly, enthusiastic people.
The challengesSalary way below industry standard. Despite being promoted, no pay rise. Absorbing other peoples jobs who would leave and not be replaced. No money to spend anywhere. Was given a stack of paper to hold up my computer. Softwares needed to do my job taken off me to save company money. Micromanaging boss getting involved when doesn't need to.

I love every minute here, and I can't wait to see the business further embrace and unlock the kind of revenue and audience opportunities that online/digital can and will provide.
The good thingsAwesome team culture. Always enjoyable coming to work when we're all passionate about the same goals.
The challengesIt's challenging to be in a side of a company with enormous growth whilst suffering from the same sort of cut-backs and restrictions placed on declining parts of the business. The industry is changing rapidly, but cut backs and restrictions should not be company wide if there are high growth areas providing some serious ROI.
