Miss the people, hated the culture created by a few moronic managers and systems.
The good thingsThe people. The people. The people.
The challengesSome managers are terrible, if you’re a sycophant or a psychopath you will do well. Prelude is a disaster that is only kept going by an incredible crew in spite of Shell.

The good thingsThe Company is well established with International standard management and procedures.
The challengesThe dynamic changes of organisations to cope with the business frequently occurred. It has made the organisations and team has to adapt in a fast manner, meanwhile, the quality of task and jobs is challenged to quickly catch up.

    Too many chiefs
The good thingsWorking for a truly multi national company and access to resources around the world
The challengesToo many discussion and not enough decision. No accountability and adverse to make decisions. There's a real difference how contractors and staff are treated. Staff are busy trying to get next job group instead of doing their job.

The good thingsDiversity, plenty of experience in the company, lots of processes and procedures.
The challengesVery political environment, if you’re a lower job grade, you won’t see this, but the higher you are, it gets in the way. Hi wasn’t comfortable with many of the decisions and consequently moved on...

The good thingsLargely great people, despite inept management team
The challengesWhere to begin. Was once a great place to work, now political beyond belief. Sad demise overseen by some of the most selfish behaviour I've ever seen in a professional environment. Lets hope Shell can save it from itself.

Toxic environment with very frustrated workforce.
The good thingsRoster provides a good life/work balance.
The challengesHealth and Safety lacking - management driving production over safety and encourages variations (shortcuts) to achieve company set goals. Communication almost impossible and workforce have no avenue to reach out to management to discuss improvement ideas.

Excellent opportunity if you have good stakeholder management skills and resilience.
The good thingsShell has huge potential globally, but one must finish the graduate program (approx 3 years) to make best use of it. Most teams in Australia are strong avocates of work/life balance and professional development, although pockets are not (like most organisations). Don't be afraid to speak out and push for development opportunities if you want them. The work is challenging but there is plenty of support, as long as you understand the politics and dynamics of a large corporate organisation (roles and responsibilities, who to involve with what, and so on).
The challengesAlthough Shell has extensive processes, in Australia they are not effectively applied and there is still lots of confusion. If one can navigate this period without extensive frustration, they will be successful. Workload is currently very high due to commissioning.

Many companies claims they treat people well and have strong development culture. But only few managed to do that in practice. Shell is one of those companies that offers good corporate culture that focus on value and emphasize on people development. That
The good thingsCompany cares about it's people. Established management structure and focus on goal setting, performance development.
The challengesIt's a very big company, many departments, hence many barriers and red-tapes. So, don't expect to grow very fast. Work here for it's established process, safe environment, and good people culture.

Shell promised so much in the BG/QGC takeover, the only thing I recieved was a 15% paycut....Go well, go Shell.
The good thingsWork life balance was great, excellent roster. Good camp facilities.
The challengesOver managed to the hilt, more managers than staff. So many promises year after year, none acted on or delivered. Appalling pay rises, not even CPI indexed. Pathetic shift allowances. Site allowances were non existent.
