Shell has operated in Australia since 1901. From operating Australia’s first oil refinery, which was central to meeting Australia’s fuel needs, to fuelling the first Qantas commercial flight in the 1920s, to playing a foundation role in building some of Australia’s largest and most innovative natural resource developments.Throughout this 122-year relationship the needs of our customers and the nation have changed, and we have continued transforming our portfolio to meet these needs. Today, we are a leading natural gas producer and are playing our part in the transition to a low-carbon future by investing in the power sector, renewable energy sources and carbon abatement activities.

What’s it like working at Shell?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees appreciate the friendly and supportive colleagues at Shell, who create a positive working environment. The work/life balance is excellent, with flexible hours and roster arrangements, whilst competitive pay and benefits include good salaries and bonuses. Shell provides career development opportunities and training, particularly through the graduate programme and access to global resources. The company is recognised as a diverse and equal opportunity employer, and working for such a well-established multinational company provides valuable experience.

However, there are some potential challenges, such as management that can lack direction and strategic clarity, with inconsistent leadership across teams. Regular restructures occur as the company adapts to business changes, which can create some uncertainty. The corporate environment can be political, particularly at higher levels, and as a large organisation, extensive processes can slow down decision-making. The flat structure means career progression may take time, and workload can be high during busy periods with demanding performance expectations.

Miss the people, hated the culture created by a few moronic managers and systems.
The good thingsThe people. The people. The people.
The challengesSome managers are terrible, if you’re a sycophant or a psychopath you will do well. Prelude is a disaster that is only kept going by an incredible crew in spite of Shell.
