Dissapointed as I thought this was going to be my forever job.
The good thingsAbsolutely loved the drivers and most of the people were very friendly and easy to get along with.
The challengesManagement were on a bit of a power trip. The fact that they let clients speak to us in disgusting mannerisms was not pleasant. They didn't train anyone else as back up which put consistent pressure on me. It was when I was told my department could get shut down leaving me jobless that was the final deal breaker for me I am not sure why someone would rip away job security like that!!??

Sims is a poor company to work for they have lost the employee preservation culture they once had.
The good thingsThe earlier days were very good.
The challengesMany challenges to list the main one was employees. Because wages are so low it attracted people who were from the bottom of the barrel. The only people you could employ were people who could not get jobs elsewhere. Their focus should be maintained on getting a higher class of workforce by paying much higher, it would result in a more extensive range of quality people applying for jobs. After a while, the company seemed to lose focus with its employees and the place took a turn for the worst. If workers were not liked by management they were targeted and it was obvious. You were always told you had support but it never worked. It seemed that unless you were extremely well qualified you did not get to apply for roles to further your career.

Good place to start your career in heavy maintenance industry but after 2 years you basically won't learn much more. It was good when there was plenty of overtime available. Unfortunately due to constantly changing scrap prices overtime has been cut down
The good thingsVery cruisey, easy work, can earn decent money if there's overtime available.
The challengesCommunication between employees and management. Dust and heat.

    Good crew, nasty management style
The good thingsA good crew and level of camaraderie amongst my fellow drivers, a wide variety of Destinations, and a good pay rate.
The challengesThe wide variety of customers and their varying understandings of safety requirements, Absolutely no Interest in being provided any opportunity for advancement - \"Just a number\" to management - and constant paranoia amongst all levels about making mistakes. They rule by fear!

I would not recommend working here unless you wanted to use it as 'a means to an end'
The good things'Mining like' industry located in major cities. An industry with opportunity to make considerable positive change. Great job security and opportunity to work in different states and countries.
The challengesThe company is immature in terms of its understanding of safety and human resources. A large number of senior personnel have not worked outside of Sims which has unfortunately bred a culture of poor standards and work practices. If you are looking for a work life balance you will not find it here. Sims rely's on retaining workers who know no better.

Positive culture with a lot of opportunities to grow if you'll willing to work hard.
The good things* Very competitive salary and benefits * Ability to progress higher in the company * International company with opportunities overseas
The challenges* Low levels of corporate bureaucracy, which is great, but means there are fewer people to do the work. Which there is plenty of.

    Management do not listen!
The good thingsReasonable money. Mostly good staff. Daily challenges.
The challengesManagement will not listen and expect unrealistic results. Machinery constantly broken. No respect from management for any employees, as long as they keep their own head above water, will screw over anyone else.

Used up and thrown away when it suits them. You could get lucky with a good crew to work with in a decent yard and have a fair yard manager. However the company as a whole are absolutely rurhless and will can't you aside as soon as it suits them.
The good thingsFlexible start time 7am- 8am
The challengesPoor working conditions, below average pay, you're just a number with management
