Worst job I've ever hadWorst company I've worked for. Felt like a prison and management treated everyone like children. Improper staff training and production pressure resulted in many major OH & S issues during my time there but nothing ever addressed. Ended up leaving because I was given a warning for cleaning a water spill. I encourage everyone to work literally anywhere else.

An important stepping stone and a valuable experience.
The good thingsThere is a lot of opportunity for career development here, pretty cliche but can't be unstated. If you have plans for larger scale work life, being a part of Southern Star Windows in Geelong is beneficial for many reasons. Firstly, this company has connections with some major building firms which you will be in constant contact with, scheduling, quoting, ordering and making executive decisions where necessary. Your responsibilities are mainly always catered to your capabilities which makes the work both challenging and easy to absorb. These aspects will help you enhance attention to detail and allow you to perform to an accurate level which is critical for any job. The environment is filled with positivity and professionalism, the attitudes and values each worker has as well as the company itself, is a reason why Southern Star is one of the best window and door providers in the country.
The challengesThe main challenges are at many moments, you can be expected to know how to deal with a situation that may be out of your ability. However, there is always support available. Work can become mundane and repetitive, this fixed with an individuals attitude and willingness to put in effort, you will be rewarded.

Amazing opportunities for personal and professional development, and an enjoyable work environment.
The good thingsHuge opportunities for career development and a management team that is genuinely interested in guiding that process from within. I've never ever felt like I couldn't ask a question - even to the highest levels of management if I wasn't sure of something. Coworkers are friendly and coming to work each day is enjoyable.
The challengesNavigating the different departments of the organisation can be difficult at first - but again there are always people willing to help if you ask.

Enjoyable, fast paced environment that's hard to find in the building and construction industry.
The good thingsSupportive and enjoyable work environment where you will enjoy coming to work everyday. Very team orientated, everyone is welcoming and helpful as well as always being opportunities for career growth and development. All levels of management are easy to work with and will always jump in to help when required. The challenges The systems used to generate orders and quotations can be a little tricky to get your head around at first, but the training provided alongside your colleagues you with become very efficient in no time.

Made good friends but have never been so unhappy at a job
The good thingsThe young team of people in the office
The challengesUnrealistic amount of work and pressure put onto the team, staff turnover like nothing I’ve seen before. When a person quits they don’t replace them and just spread the load between existing staff. Hard work was never recognised but faults and errors were constantly noted.

The good thingsGood hours, 6am-2am gives you plenty of afternoon time and work isn’t challenging at all
The challengesNo opportunity to move into a higher position, pay is below average, management seem to always find a way to blame employee, empty promises from management, focusing on anything but the main issue at hand

    No help,support or personal development
The good thingsThe work itself is very interesting, I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the product.
The challengesManagement. Getting help, support and guidance is extremely tough. You are given minimal tools to handle disgruntled customers and when the problem needs to be escalated you have to seek alternative routes to get a resolution. Also moving departments can be challenging, you can express interest but unless you are first in best dressed you will be over looked. You may be more qualified to move into a certain role but unless you approach management first you can lose out to someone who has just merely asked for the role. This was very frustrating if you are wanting to learn all facets of the business. Very unprofessional.
