Has been poor — barely any shifts for new workers, slow CSO communication, and management more focused on profit than supporting staff or clients.
The good thingsTraining before starting with nurses and key workers.
The challengesCurrently employed but wouldn’t recommend. New workers get barely any shifts, with most given to long-term staff. Hardly any buddy shifts to build experience. My CSO rarely responds within the promised 24 hours — sometimes days later. Feels like the company cares more about profit than clients or staff, and management is quick to blame workers when issues arise.

    Toxic and horrible.
The good thingsNothing but people outside finance seem good.
The challengesFinancial controller (Team leader) is unprofessional and lacks of leadership. From day one, the most frequent thing I was told by the person is "I don't want to train you" and "You know nothing". I wasn't even given a list of tasks until HR got involved. Demeaning and putting down team members constantly is normal in this area. I noticed the staff turnover in this team is very high and I know why now.

    Wonderful, just wonderful company.
The good thingsLove it here. Ive only been here for a short amount of time but I can already tell and feel that this is a company that truely cares about its clients and employees. Spinal Life is constantly looking to do better and be better. If you are ever unsure about anything you can be directly trained, request extra training and access a wide range of training online too. Managers are friendly and the office aura is light and calm. Your efforts are appreciated and are noticed.
The challengesNone really, maybe a bit stressful at times but that comes with the job. If you work with disabled or disadvantaged people, your job is obviously going to be stressful because you are trying your best to make sure the clients are taken care off and that all shifts are covered if possible.

I would highly recommend working for this company and I enjoyed my role there and would gladly go back if my circumstances changed.
The good thingsManagement were extremely helpful and supportive. I enjoyed the clients as well and felt management rostered me on with clients they felt I would get along with well.
The challengesBeing messaged alot for shifts. I was told this would eventually slow down as I gained my permanent clients so this is something a new worker will just need to endure until settled in your role.

Spinal Life Australia care about Clients and Workers. A well run company.
The good thingsFlexible hours and easy app for time sheets and lodgement of travel forms. Someone always answers the phone when a problem arises.
The challengesVery long days of work to accrue enough hours. The shifts are short and spread over a 12-16hr day.

Stressful to say the least. Shocking people culture- lots of talk, little action with even less support
The good thingsWork/ life balance- flexi working hours
The challengesLack of support from management. A lot of the times, questions asked were either dismissive, Most times, supervisiors unavailable due to myriads of meeting attendance. Given my personal experience, it was quite evident that if one is in the 'in group', one has an added advantage of being in the know ahead of others. Often times, staff is talked at with listening skills hugely lacking! When in discussions with clooeagues, there was no lack of yawning and disinterest shown. This indicated quite clearly that one had to just listen and other partie's input was given little regard. Apparently, they know it all!! IF trith be told, if only they did know it all, SLA (PSHCS) would be a less stressful place to work in. People drop like flies in there. In my experience at least 18 (and counting) since my departure.

I have learnt to probably not work this job without having a second job somewhere else, long standing employees seem to have their hours right up each fortnight but after being here 6 months I’m still struggling to get enough work and they’re still employ
The good thingsThe clients you get to work with are lovely people. They pay you a kilometre allowance for driving between jobs which does boost your pay. They’ve offered opportunities in the past for internal applications to client service managers.
The challengesFinding a work life balance, they generally ignore my availability and roster me on whenever they please each fortnight, making it hard to plan anything as it can be unpredictable. Getting enough hours, as a lot of it is morning or evening work and not a heap in between. A lot of short shifts. Coping financially when a client is in hospital/leaves service etc it can take a while to replace your hours.

Clients can be very challenging and their families but if you are given the correct tools and support you can enjoy your experience and feel like you are making a difference
The good thingsRewarding making a difference in someone’s life that otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunities to access the community and live their best life without a carers devoted support
The challengesManagement needs a major overhaul. Admin staff don’t stay long enough in the role! As a support worker you need consistent support from a client service officer but sadly most have been incompetent in their role

Unsupportive CSO to both support workers and clients.
The good thingsClients and fellow support workers.
The challengesUnsupportive Client Service Officer. Company seems to prioritise profit before clients individual needs and requests. This could all stem down to this particular CSO however, hard to work for a company who’s clients were continuously unsafisfied..
