Caring frontline staff, but a toxic, micromanaged culture with little accountability
The good thingsFrontline staff who care.
The challengesHighly toxic environment. Micromanagers. Unethical. Unequal treatment. Lack of accountability and communication. Visceral managers. Zero care for people they serve (clients).

SSI strives to be better however falls very short of what is expected in a work environment.
The good thingsThe cultural diversity of employees is great. WFH opportunities to fit around life and balance
The challengesBullying/harassment is an acceptable practice within the organization, and staff working extra 6 - 10 hours per fortnight without payment hence underpayment of staff wide spread and no professional development provided or training.

SSI is a dynamic organisation that fosters professional growth and meaningful impact, with room for improved alignment between individual leadership styles and organisational values
The good thingsWorking at SSI has been a rewarding journey, offering immense opportunities for professional growth and personal development. The organisation provides a supportive environment, a commitment to diversity, and impactful work that aligns with its values of empowering individuals and communities. I especially enjoyed the collaborative culture and the chance to make a meaningful difference in clients' lives, which enriched my understanding of community support services.
The challengesLike any workplace, challenges arise. For me, these included difficulties in communication and alignment with my manager, which I believe did not fully reflect the values of SSI. This experience taught me resilience and strengthened my ability to handle workplace challenges constructively.

An authentic, values driven organisation where diversity and lived experience are celebrated.
The good thingsMore than anywhere I have worked in 25+ years, SSI people are values driven and come to work ready and willing to make a difference in the world. It is both humbling and exciting to be part of it all. I have great flexible work options that support me to do my best work when and where I can. SSI is proudly culturally diverse, and actively welcoming of employees who bring their unique lived experience to work.
The challengesLike any not-for-profit environment, there is limited budget to play with.

A refreshingly positive and inclusive place to work
The good thingsSSI is the most diverse and inclusive organisation I've ever worked in, it's so refreshing! Everyone is here to make a positive difference in the world and is kind, approachable and highly skilled.
The challengesSSI is a large with many different divisions and programs they offer. It takes a while to get to know what each program does and who is who.

The work environment was unenjoyable, and I found it ironic that I was dismissed due to an injury, considering I was working with people with disabilities.
The good thingsThe training provided by SSI for LACs was very intensive and informative.
The challengesThe lack of supportive management, coupled with the overwork and high stress levels among LACs, has created an unhappy atmosphere in the Bankstown office, where the team environment is far from positive.

Overall SSI is the best organization that I worked for. The flexibility in every day at work makes the differences.
The good thingsSSI is a multicultural organization. Employees can apply for ADO which is rare in other organizations these days.
The challengesWhen it comes to job opportunity, CALD work don’t have the chance of getting the job as much as Non CALD.
