The AM was cruel and controlling
The good thingsI arranged the whole site and helped many people
The challengesThe company is bar behind other mental health NFP’s. Computer systems and modern day recovery is primitive. The AM resulted in many others quitting in same position

Disappointing and not what it seems.
The good thingsFlexible hours, great colleagues. Some employees were very kind and hard working.
The challengesPoor management. If you suggest anything based on common sense it is quickly dismissed or your suggestions get used down the track without acknowledgement. Enabling and disempowering clients to remain unwell by way of having no consequences. Honesty and straightforward communication is not valued. People are cleverly pushed out of the organisation, usually by management who feel insecure. It has potential to be an excellent service facility but sadly it's the typical Gov style system of ticking boxes.

My time at St Bart’s was marked by a lack of accountability, poor leadership, and ineffective communication, which undermined both staff wellbeing and the organisation’s ability to fulfil its mission of supporting vulnerable people.
The good thingsWhile my personal experience working at St Bart’s was not positive, I continue to believe that the concept and mission of supporting the homeless and vulnerable is a brilliant one — if implemented effectively and with the right leadership and culture.
The challengesI observed serious systemic issues during my time at St Bart’s. Consumers engaging in drug use or prostitution often faced no meaningful consequences, creating risks for staff and other residents. At the same time, upper management demonstrated a domineering and archaic approach to leadership, characterised by poor communication and an unwillingness to address matters outside what they considered their immediate remit. This culture of turning a blind eye to critical issues undermined both staff morale and the organisation’s mission to provide safe, supportive care.

For an organization who assists the most vulnerable in our community, there is no care whatsoever for their staff.
    The good thingsAssisting our clients
The challengesVery poor leadership, have no idea what they are doing, no management skills.

Insufferable, inept, ineffective, hardly any support given.
The good thingsIt’s good to see and hear stories of people who are experiencing homelessness engage in their services and move on to better things but that’s few and far between. Oh and you also get a “trendy” t shirt as part of their uniform if you REALLY like them sort of perks.
The challengesThis company is very draconian and hierarchical in the way it runs. It has complex “processes” in order to speak to the right person. The grandiosity of management believing that they’re far too important than to speak with the mere mortals beneath them is laughable. Very high turn over of staff.

Good to build knowledge and confidence, but not to stay long term.
The good thingsAble to learn while working, good hours, always something to do or someone wanting support, the clients were interesting and good to interact with.
The challengesNegative staff social atmosphere, set against one another, poor management.

    Very old school work ethics
The good thingsThe frontline staff are amazing and always helping to learn.
The challengesManagement have no idea what they doing. They are very detached from lower level staff. The hierarchy is very distinct. There is a very outdated work ethics. Support worker do not get support from management. With the recent covid outbreak, management are expecting every single staff to attend work site even those who can work from home. Bearing in mind the office itself is quite crowded wear there is not enough social distancing. Very dictatorial leadership style. There is a lack of trust from management.

Make your mark with St Bart’s!
The good things I’ve been working in community services for over 10 years with diverse clients in many different positions and settings. My work with St Bart’s had given me a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in providing accommodation and support. I feel that St Bart’s stand by the principles of trauma-informed care and recovery principles which are embedded in everyday practice and interactions with clients. In my last fews years there, the organisation really started to critically reflect on where they could do better and continually sought feedback from both clients and staff and engaged independent consultants. I personally felt supported throughout my employment with St Bart’s - with supervision, professional goals and career progression as well as access to the Employee Assistance Program (counselling) when needed.
The challengesLack of training opportunities for staff

60% of my time was fortunate working in an understanding, supportive workplace effectively being able to support residents to empower them on their recovery journey.
The good thingsBefore the rigid structure was in place, working with great team members.
The challengesManagement's lack of understanding what they are managing impacting on the work with clients. Sterile, heartless approach to implementing changes excluding people from contributing to changes in process and not effectively communicating to those who the changes impact. Management are not approachable and instead tyrannic in their directives.
