A good learning experience but a rough time
The good thingsA wonderful organisation that does good in local communities, with some lovely people here and there
The challengesYou will be devalued here - there are some very dedicated people but they all eventually leave because of this. Depending on who you work with, expect minimal respect towards yourself as a human being

Lack of Transparency and Fairness in Leadership
The good thingsWhile I enjoyed my time there and worked alongside dedicated, hardworking people, they were frequently undervalued and received little support.
The challengesI worked at this organization for some time and unfortunately had a negative experience due to leadership and workplace culture. There was a noticeable pattern of favoritism, with opportunities and recognition not always based on performance or merit. This created an environment where fairness and transparency were lacking, which affected team morale and trust. Inconsistent treatment of employees and lack of accountability made it difficult to feel supported or valued. While there were some positive aspects, the overall environment felt challenging and, at times, discouraging. I would recommend that the organization focus on building a more transparent, fair, and supportive culture, where employees are treated equitably and leadership is held to consistent standards.

Keep your cardio up so you can run from this one
The good thingsthe independence during classroom time
The challengesA lot of deceptive practices. They hire you as a casual and promise money and hours that seem good, then when you're in they pressure you to change to Part Time for the significantly reduced package. At one point I had members of HR making changes to my employment contract that I had not signed off on or even seen documentation for. The trainers aren't on the same wavelength as each other or the hiring staff so get ready to be told six different stories and have everyone quietly fighting against each other

Go in with an open mind, act with integrity, and work your hardest.
The good things- Lots of supportive colleagues from different teams. - Good work - life balance. - Engaging in work that impacts our community. - Strong and ethical CEO. - Great support from the HR team. Always willing to help, - Customer Service team: genuinely care about customers. - Events team: some deeply committed team members there. - Access to the senior leadership team. - Exposure to top tier corporate and government clients that will enable you to up-skill on the job.
The challenges- Having enough time to see projects to its completion due to ever changing, and sometimes, conflicting demands. - Pockets of “brown cardigan” mentality still exist, which can be frustrating as this will hinder innovation and speed to market. - Limited available funding to invest in additional headcount in certain areas, so be prepared to wear different hats. For example, if you’re in Sales, then you will also need to come up with Marketing ideas: from inception to execution.

    Avoid employment here.
The good thingsThere was no part to this job role.
The challengesNo support, no medication scope, limited clinical scope, glorified very basic first aid. Luckily they rarely have to provide to medically unwell or unstable patients .

The good thingsit pays, but just above base and on a weird award

I loved working here in the beginning but then all the politics and flaws in the systems became too much.
The good thingsGreat client interaction and decent support at branch level. Great work life balance and flexibility of shifts.
The challengesHours were irregular, the days and times changed every week and sometimes hours for the following week weren't given until the Friday before which made it very difficult to plan things around work. Policies and procedures were outdated and if they were updated they were often not sent on to branches. Absolutely no opportunity for career progression at branch level and very little recognition when you do well. Senior management staff take too long to return calls, sometimes weeks and it takes months to get a decision on anything. Senior management will take large accounts away from you without a thank you or a hand over and then will not make contact with the client for months, undoing the work of staff that have nurtured the clients and leaving the clients frustrated. Management strategies need to be seriously looked at. It is not a team culture, very much Senior staff are better and Customer Service Staff are not worth anything. To much focus on money when they should be focused on customer experience and improving the business culture to be more inclusive, it is very much Sydney staff are better than branches and senior managers are the best, anyone under then is there to do whatever they want.

love the organisation, can't stand the senior management / execs / board.
The good thingsthey have a reasonable turnover if you need to find work; just don't expect much money or promotions. Terrific is you have a passion for doing charity work.
The challengesThe board micromanages everything and I mean everything, they skimp where they should spend, and they are lavish where they should not. They make poor decisions and fail to see opportunities put right in-front of them such as NSW Patient Transport Services tender and becoming the official ambulance service on a island off the east coast. They put their faith in the wrong people, hire others for their experience and then don't trust their advice. The board needs to include experienced people rather than random business types who have no idea what the organisation does.

Great company to work for and the saving lives matters.
The good thingsGreat brand and very forward looking management with a focus on innovation. The company does not just rely on it's rich history but is very much looking towards the future and how to meet new challenges
The challengesLegacy issue, being a organisation with a 130 year history makes change difficult.

They are a great company to be part of if you have a passion for work place safety and home safety, giving back to the community and being apart of an organization that has been around for over 100 years.
The good thingsSt John is a community focused organization, they are proud to be providing first aid training and equipment to the general public as well as the volunteers who provide support at big and small events all over Australia.
The challengesBeing a board run organization it can be challenging to change up old ways.
