A team friendly environment that enables you to grow your skills in multitasking, sales and travel knowledge.
The good thingsI loved my time at STA Travel. It was both fun and challenging but rewarding in terms of the travel opportunities (if you made the most of them of course). I had a great team and felt most of the time it was a really positive environment. Career progression is available if you work hard and make your intentions clear.
The challengesPay wasn't great but the travel opportunities made up for it. Work-life balance is also lacking as it is quite a stressful job with sales targets.

Most stressful minimum wage job you will do.
The good thingsIf you work really hard there are some good perks.
The challengesYoung management. Understaffed and undertrained stores. Support office located in europe. Very little marketing budget.

We've tried nothing, and we're all out of ideas
The good thingsThe team in perticular who i worked with was great & its low pressure as management doesn't seem to care too much, which is a bit of a double edged blade.
The challengesDealing with management & communication between our stores & head office

There is so many more good days and experiences than there is challenging ones, but you will grow so much from those challenging ones.
The good thingsI love working at STA! Getting people to go on adventures, booking trip, developing new travel agents into superstars all of that is amazing. We have an amazing senior management team and despite being a smaller region WA feels like a real team.
The challengesUnfortunately STA in WA has very limited development for when it comes to wanting to move into different role.

STA is a great place to work. The company challanges you to always improve, you're always learning and every day is different. The team culture is amazing. It definterly isn't an easy job but the hard work pays of and gives you a great sense of achievemen
The good thingsRewarded for hard work
The challengesPay could be better, but opportunity for bonus' and incentives does help

Exciting & Fun, but at what cost ?
The good thingsThe people not in management are usually great, fun people to work with. Some good product nights and incentives.
The challengesThe sales targets are unrealistic and the pressure is unbearable. The regional mangers have no care for who you are or support for retail staff unless they are \"super Sellers\". Consistently understaffed and no one can take leave even when requested months in advanced. Higher management need a lot of work. Incentives should be shared around and not just the same people over and over.

Challenging in both a good and bad way
The good thingsChallenging, great colleagues, personal rewarding, great career development into management from entry level.
The challengesLow pay when in management position compared to the effort and challenges you face. And the responsibility you also have is big, but not a big gap between entry level salary and manager. A lot of very needy and requiring customers basically going to agents to have someone to blame if anything goes wrong. Not STA’s fault, just the nature of the job. High turnover and super hard to retain staff to build a great team.

Not without it's faults, but easily the best job I have ever had.
The good thingsSTA has an amazingly fun, casual, and friendly culture. The people that I work with are my favourite people in the world, and those that have moved on from STA are still some of my closest friends. This job bonds you to people like glue. There's a challenge everyday, and I would 100% recommend this role to someone that likes to be kept on their toes, and learn something new every day. Taught me organisation and structure better than anything I've ever done before, including uni! If you stick it out, you'll learn a lot - about yourself, the industry, sales, structure, etc. Valuable things that you can take on to your next role.
The challengesPressure. There's a lot of pressure to meet targets, and honestly the work-life balance isn't great. You're not technically supposed to stay behind, but you sort of have to, especially when you first start and want to make money. Definitely not for someone that has trouble multi-tasking, or if you're studying/have other commitments outside of work.

I have good and bad days. I love my team and the brand but get frustrated at the systems side of things and the lack of training.
The good thingsThe products are great and it is clear what is expected of you. Lots of goal setting, reportable tracking and product dept work hard to ensure you have some great USP's to take to market. Daily/weekly recognition for hard work through emails.
The challengesCustomised systems they spent way too much money for 10+ years ago that make the sales process so slow. For example You have to edit every airfare terms and conditions with info, it does not interface this. Also limited training only 2 weeks and 2 days total in classroom in 2 years of being with company. Online learning available but relates to the systems issue above - very clunky and content often incorrect/outdated. Young Managers in roles they are not ready/qualified for. Rostering/pay does not adhere to fair work law in most stores despite sales staff being on Retails General Award. Majority of Head Office support based overseas so can take 24-48 hours to get a response that traveller wants u to give now!

The tagline is ‘start the adventure’ and that’s definitely what you get from a travel and career perspective

Great to learn new skills and develop but the money is shocking when comparing the same jobs in the market
The good thingsVery relaxed atmosphere, very young group of smart people
The challengesNo real progression - given more workload and responsibility and sold the idea of “development” with no chance of wage increase or role progression

Took it for what it was and found the positive, but not a company that values you as a person or your time.
The good thingsThe people you work with make it half bearable and the fact that STA Travel really does have the best prices on the market.
The challengesUnfortunately the \"perks\" don't equate to a less than appealing pay bracket. For the amount of work that is expected of you, you really could opt for a job that pays the same with a whole lot of less stress. No opportunity for career progression as everything higher is moving overseas or you have to move to Melbourne. Managers micro-manage you, so be prepared to be treated like a child. Targets are unrealistic, have to work weekends. Lots of unpaid time given to this company.

Towards the end of my long tenure with this, once great, company I realised that they are much like their awful competitors. Profit first at the expense of the staff. They lost so many good people with their shambolic downsizing and restructuring. The Vic
The good thingsSome great people worked there. All things travel. Great Student and faculty Clients
The challengesTerrible response and assistance from upper management. HR was (and by all recent accounts is still) useless. Unrealistic targets and outdated KPI's. Marketing and any budget for marketing is abysmal. Rubbish salary too.

Good to get into the industry, wouldn't have spent any longer there.
The good thingsGetting to know the secrets of the industry and being able to book holidays at cost price
The challengesLittle to no support with very high expectations. Limited clientele which made the KPIs extremely hard to achieve. No management to turn to and ask for help.

Fun for a while, but not a long term career
The good thingsGreat culture, fun people, opportunity for free trips, can make lots of commission if you put in the hours.
The challengesHard to get anything done without overtime, people promoted too soon, bad base salary (but average in terms of industry), very high expectations and goals which can be unrealistic.

A travel company for people passionate about a world of adventure
The good thingsCulture that is built around a love for travel and adventure in particular. The USP's with STA Travel's products drive customers and sales to your door. With a strong work ethic the commission structure and travel perks provide great reward. Really quick career progression and strong leadership development programmes.
The challengesThe learning curve is steep but I was motivated by the challenges at hand and was rewarded for my efforts.

Great place for people after a temporary job or passionate about backpacking.
The good thingsI really loved my manager and the team was great, the place was lots of fun. What I mean is that this is a crazy fun place to work when you are in your twenties. However I wouldn't recommend it if you are a grown up adult wanting to pay a mortgage or have kids.
The challengesThe salary and the targets, sometimes the roster was also not easy to get used to.

It is a industry that is cut throat, be ready for denials and rejections.
The good thingsBuild friendships and have the occasional passenger that will be appreciative to what you go through day in and day out.
The challengesThe rejections will be more then you can count.
