Incredible job for high school and university students.
The good thingsI began working at State Swim while I was a university student. The managers have been excellent in ensuring that every time my timetable changes, they give me new shifts when the opportunity arises. The community that we have at State Swim is fantastic, and so many friendships have been made. The company is always open to helping however and whenever they can and is always looking for feedback to improve the working environment.
The challengesAs State Swim is a chain in the swimming teaching area, sometimes the managers can be swapped around. The more experienced managers may leave us to help another State Swim without much notice.

Overall, my experience at StateSwim was positive, with a supportive environment and excellent flexibility, though there’s room for improvement in communication and scheduling.
The good thingsStateSwim offers excellent flexibility, which has been particularly beneficial while balancing university commitments. The supportive and accommodating work environment makes it an ideal workplace for students or anyone seeking a role that allows for a healthy work-life balance.
The challengesWhile my overall experience at StateSwim was positive, one area for improvement would be the communication around shift changes and rostering. At times, updates were given on short notice, making planning challenging.

Really nice environment with good program but short shifts
The good thingsThe environment was really nice very supportive. the swim program is good, teaching SBK/BR after freestyle inc breathing was a lot easier than trying to do them both at the same time.
The challengesThe pool was horrific i don't know what they're doing with the chlorine but it was incredibly itchy and dry after work worse then every other pool i've worked at. The shifts are very short.

The good thingsGreat staff culture driven by an inclusive and intuitive Management Team
The challengeslanguage can sometimes be a barrier because we have a diverse customer base. But good demonstrations and patient, helpful supervisors/co-workers are always available

    Wouldn't do it again.
The good thingsMade 1 good friend and that's all.
The challengesAt the time that I was employed. The managment was honestly awful and treated their staff horribly hence there was a big turn over of staff constantly. I heard now it's changed so I hope for the staff sake that it's improved.

Progressed from Casual to Manager, unsupportive workplace, terrible pay
The good thingsHalf price for immediate family, after a period of time can swim in programs for free
The challengesShort shift availabilities for casuals, low pay compared to price of lessons, unsupportive high-level company management, barely progression opportunities, managers are expected to give up everything for the job

Swimming teaching is a rewarding job, but at State Swim it has made me despise everything about it.
The good thingsThe actual work of teaching swimming is lovely.
The challengesManagement are rude and have no sympathy when you can’t come into work, we work weekends and public holidays with no extra pay, no one ever gives good feedback, only criticises everything we do.

    I wound not recommend
The good thingsThe staff was lovely and friendly
The challengesThe pool environment was a breeding ground for bacteria, I got sick almost every week throughout my employment. The pool are pumped so full of chlorine that my arm hairs fell off at one point and on a couple of occasions my sight was blurry for the rest of the day. Minimum wage with minimum hours was definitely a challenge and sometimes I was sent home after I’d started barely an hour ago.

'Premium' service to customers doesn't align with the low wages for hard working staff.
The good thingsNice working environment, friendly coworkers, great relationships with students
The challengesPay rates simply noncompetitive compared to public swimming pools. Hard to get shifts covered.

Great work experience, perfect for students
The good thingsThe teaching was lots of fun and never boring! Lots of different classes and age groups to teach. There were always opportunities to fill in shifts and earn more if you have the time.
The challengesSometimes can get a little frustrating waiting for supervisors to assess classes as they are so busy.
