A wild ride... might go back for seconds
The good thingsThe Young People are awesome. They generally know where they're headed and keen to get out into work. They are more independent than most teenagers
The challengesI loved my time here, but it's not for everyone. You need loads of patience and to be very organised. Tge kids will challenge you but they know you genuinely care about their education and their future they will embrace you

Work to bone, do more, say less and align.
The good thingsGreat staff, so much turn over though. Students are ok, but not focus of organisation.
The challengesUnqualified, unsuitable leaders in schools / organisation. Cannot attract so make in house elevations beyond people capability. Ego driven not culture focused. Exec unhealthy team, judgement of all below.

    cool kids, ruthless manager
The good thingsThe kids are wonderful. really good experience getting to know them. they know what they want. I think the system has a good intention.
The challengesThe management is ruthless. Even when they claim not to understand your role, if you refuse to teach their way, they will be hypercritical, interrupt your teaching, and fail to offer feedback or any form of mentoring.

    No prospect for career progression
The good thingsWorking with young people to help and watch them grow and realise their full potential in their chose industry pathway.
The challengesTop heavy organisation - significant shift away from potential to be great. No opportunity for career progression. No action to improve conditions. Constant advice from head office about pay reviews that haven't eventuated for YEARS.

Advice to job‑seekers If you value your mental health, steer clear until there’s a complete leadership overhaul. No perk or pay bump offsets the emotional toll of a culture that dehumanises its people.
The good thingsAll the 5 star reviews on here were asked to be completed in 2023 by HR. Please do not be decieved by them. Advice to management. Listen, apologise, and act. Replace fear‑based control with transparent, values‑driven leadership before the brand—and more importantly, the people—are beyond repair.
The challengesUnsustainable workload. Constant “urgent” pivots and last‑minute directives keep everyone in fight‑or‑flight mode. Vacant roles stay unfilled for months to “save budget,” pushing extra load onto burnt‑out teams. Culture of blame, not learning. Mistakes are weaponised; successes are claimed by exec.

more of a business, less of a schoolLots of change- went through over five principals in three years. Company was focused more on growing the business and less on the students, who were seen as inventory, while the employers were customers. Leadership and executive were passionate and had great industry connections- there are lots of vocational opportunities for students, and education wise the needs of most were met, but it wasn't ideal for students requiring additional support. Has rebranded since I left, so might be different.

    Great concept, but poorly executed.
The good thingsTeacher and Industry Consultants are passionate educators and great people.
The challengesConcerning culture amongst young people. Very low standard of behaviour. At times a scary environment to work in. Upper management are not listening to staff.

    Potential to be brilliant.
The good thingsFantastic concept. Very genuine and passionate CEO. Some equally passionate and knowledgeable staff and a lot of support to help young people connect with industry.
The challengesMajor issues with some management such as lack of communication, zero knowledge of what is happening in their departments, not listening, not observing. This results in some of the most highly praised and highly paid staff totally rorting the company by doing almost no work while the truly valuable staff who are actually doing all the work leave the company in frustration. It’s a shame because it could be fantastic on every level if management observed and understood who their most valuable staff are.

Best decision I made was to apply for a job at AITC.
The good thingsWonderful workplace culture filled with passionate staff. Each day is different and exciting, working in a supportive and collaborative 'deliberately different' school. The focus remains on student growth and achievement, not 'bums on seats' like the majority of independent schools.
The challengesInitially the model was tricky to understand after working in the 'traditional' school setting, but this challenge was quickly overcome.

A great place to work with supportive leadership. Something different every day.
The good thingsAITC is a deliberately different educational experience. There is so much diversity. It is never mundane and we enjoy something different every day.. I worked in a "normal" school for years and when I came here I found the challenges to be invigorating and exciting. A school built for helping our young people with a trade program is enlightening. I enjoy great support from my colleagues and leadership. It has great PD opportunities and here you really can shine.
The challengesBecause AITC is not like your normal everyday school some may find it challenging, however, if you are up for a distinct experience with great support, friendly staff and something different, this could be the place for you.

AITC is a friendly and rewarding place to be a part of.
The good thingsThe Australian Industry Trade College is a deliberately different school on the Gold Coast. Young people have the opportunity to do an education pathway to complete their QCE, whilst being offered the opportunity to gain work experience in a number of different industries throughout their 3 years of schooling, which will lead to a school based apprenticeship in the field of their choice.. Young people gain resilience and grow into young adults. Once young people graduate, they continue their apprenticeship in a fulltime capacity. Staff are committed to every young person and mentor the young people to succeed beyond AITC.
The challengesAITC work closely with Industry partners to acquire the current needs that evolve. There is no challenge to great. Each day is different for both staff and young people. We have values and expectations that are firm and set in stone and guide each person to succeed in the right direction.

Completely unlike any school I have come across before... Engaged staff, enthusiastic young people, achieving tangible outcomes.
The good thingsAITC is a deliberately different school for people that know industry is the path that they want to choose. AITC gives young people the opportunity to grow personally, gain their QCE qualification as well as trial a range of different industry experiences before commencing their apprenticeship while still at school. I have taught in Public, Private and Catholic sectors across NSW and QLD, this is like nothing I have seen before in preparing young people for success. The staff are passionate and engaged, young people want to learn the content as it is related to industry and young people receive opportunities in industry to try a range of careers before having to decide which path they want to head down.
The challengesAs AITC is deliberately different, there is always something happening. If you like mundane education where you repeat the same content year after year or traditional teaching, this may not be the place for you.

A job I take pride in and a school that has given my son an amazing pathway!
The good thingsNot only do I love my job and the amazing team I work with but I am also a mother of a son that attends AITC. I could not wish for a better school for my son. They have high standards and expectations in staff and young people but we both get the support we need to achieve.
The challengesEveryday is new so you must adapt to suit and that applies in my job and for my son during his education block and industry block, but all are great challenges.

To succeed at AITC as a teacher you need to have life experience and be able to contextualise that experience into an educational environment. You also need to love working with Young People and want to see them succeed in life.
The good thingsAITC is definitely an education disrupter. It turns the traditional academic model on its head and puts work ethic and character education first. Having worked and burned out in traditional schools AITC gets a lot right about educating the students who are not academic. The company allows a good work life balance with time to complete your work during work hours.
The challengesTo succeed as a Teacher at AITC you need to be able to develop strong relationships with the students. Don't be adversarial with them, establish expectations and be firm but at the same time treat them as young people who need guiding in the right direction.

A very exciting and supportive place to work - with a deliberate difference.
The good thingsAITC is a private school which is deliberately different. AITC is all about preparing young people for their future careers in industry. As I have just started with AITC in the last month, I am overwhelmed with the welcoming support given me, to achieve my newly appointed role.
The challengesAs AITC is a school of difference, I am conscious about developing the AITC values so I fit into an already established culture of excellence.

The AITC continues to support my career progression and allows the opportunity to develop on so many levels. I enjoy being part of a passionate dedicated team who have tremendous impact, but aren't afraid to have fun too.
The good thingsProud to work for a company who prides themselves on being "Deliberately Different" and passionate about championing young people to find their true purpose and passion. Great to work for an organisation who contributes so much to community, society and and valued by industry.
The challengesThe day to day challenge of helping young people realise their potential but well worth the effort.

I love working for the AITC, where everyday I feel like I am making a big difference in the lives of great young people.
The good thingsA fantastic program that fulfills a need in our community - supporting young people with vocational pathways and finding opportunities in industry. The focus on the development of the young person and supporting their journey is brilliant.
The challengesThe pace of change can be a challenge, as the college is industry driven, so we adapt and flex to support the needs of industry as well as supporting the development of the young people.

Pioneering, busy, challenging, rewarding, deliberately different College.
The good thingsThe Team Leaders (teachers) are very supportive of new staff, are very Collegial and show genuine care for each other. There is a focus on the Young Person (student) experience, and staff care for each YP and their future in industry.
The challengesIf Team Leaders expect to just "deliver" their subject content, like in traditional education institutions, this is not the place for them. The teaching will challenge you to engage YP in their learning, contextualise it for the world of work, develop skills that are vital for work... it is about developing the whole person. For admin staff, IT, College Leaders, it is a dynamic place with lots of projects and challenges as we push educational boundaries and move forward with new campuses in Industry (Boating Industry Academy as an example).

Great team, unique model, rewarding outcomes. Bring your A game!
The good thingsWorking with a great team of people who are all invested in enabling, empowering and elevating secondary school young people to build their character, values and employability in readiness for real-world destinations. Seeing a young person transform is the most rewarding part of the job.
The challengesIt is a fast-evolving organisation with a unique approach to bringing education and industry together, so the pace and agility at which it operates requires a level of energy that may not suit those who prefer being in a role on cruise control.

The good thingsThe AITC is an education disruptor - it's deliberately different. If you want to be part of something more, something big... if you want to make a difference and be the change, then the AITC is for you. The Rookies Program is one of the most transformational and rewarding experiences I have ever witnessed.
The challengesAgility is absolutely necessary at the AITC because it changes and pivots to suit industry's needs. This can be challenging but also very rewarding.
