Avoid this unscrupulous company. The good thingsThe lady who hired me was amicable enough.
That’s about it.
The challengesThis is not an honest company. If you’re in a desperate situation in which you’ve been unemployed for a while and just need to take any job you can get to pay the bills, a company like Tiffany Maids can seem tempting, but be warned; they aren’t as they appear. On your buddy shift, they’ll take you out to a fancy suburb like Dalkeith (or whichever ritzy suburb is closest to you) and give you a 5-hour job with the kindest client they can find, and you’ll be thinking hey, this company seems amazing! But once they’ve hired you, they’ll make you drive 35-40 km or more every day and stack 2-4 piddly, 1.5-hour jobs 30ks away from each other, one atop the other, and expect you to arrive in 15 minutes from one to the next in peak hour traffic! You’re over-scheduled and it’s actually impossible to make it from one client to another in the allocated time, and they will blame YOU for this to the client! As well as being bad for the cleaner, it’s also highly unethical and disrespectful to their often elderly clients, because Tiffany Maids’ MO seems to be, they’ve got dementia/are forgetful so won’t miss the cleaner they’ve over-scheduled if the cleaner (due to their impossible time allocations) is late or a no-show. It doesn’t matter to Tiffany Maids whether the client gets the service they paid for or not; they’ve got their money and that’s all they care about. That’s immoral and an appalling way to treat your clients. Many of the cleaners at Tiffany Maids also seem to be migrants, which makes sense; they’re easier to take advantage of and won’t realise they’re being exploited.
If you’re ever in a situation in which cash is tight, do yourself a favour—investigate the company thoroughly BEFORE you sign on, and do your best to ensure they operate with integrity. Nothing about the company online except many five-star ratings with no reviews is a huge red flag. And don’t make simply ‘making money’ your priority, because that’s what dodgy companies like this do, and that’s how you’ll wind up working for them! Even if you’re in dire straits, don’t let financial desperation drive your choice of a job. Try to think vocationally—how you can best use your talents to bless and serve others.
