    An unsupportive work environment
The good thingsExcellent pay compared to other sectors I considered this to be a dream come to true to work at Transport. Working with an excellent group of seasoned professionals with exceptional camaraderie amongst peers, however in the last two and a half years there have been changes in leadership and organisational restructure. I would not recommend to anyone under current leadership group.
The challengesIn recent years, the investigations area has deteriorated and is now being managed by people who have little to no understanding of investigation processes. It has been very sad to watch Environment of significant psychosocial stress amongst colleagues. Unsupportive work environment

Management lacks clear direction and leadership, resulting in a frustrating work environment.
    The good thingsFlexible working conditions
The challengesUnfortunately, my experience has been frustrating due to ineffective leadership and a lack of support from management. Decisions often seem reactive rather than strategic, and there is little clarity around goals or long-term direction. This creates constant uncertainty and inefficiency. Employees are frequently left without the tools, guidance, or backing needed to succeed. Concerns raised to management are not meaningfully addressed, and accountability at the leadership level appears limited.

    Very supportive workplace.
The good thingsThe way I was so well supported by work and colleagues when I faced challenges and incidents on the crossing, and when I had health challenges
The challengesThe challenges came from outside the department, on the crossing. Drivers can be so selfish and the work has a high element of risk.

Limited Opportunities in a Politically Driven Workplace
The good thingsGood Salary and Work life balance.
The challengesGraduates and even more experienced individuals often face limited learning opportunities, with politics and favoritism sometimes taking precedence over hard work. Small town gossips.

    No support for contract workers
The good thingsFriendly colleagues, nice offices
The challengesNo support for contract workers. Poor ergonomic set-up. Managers not concerned with welfare of employees. Difficult to make progress with high levels of bureaucracy blocking delivery of projects, leading to impossible outcomes.

Good place to work but hours can either be a blessing or a cure.
The good thingsThere were not long hours and the support was very good. I really enjoyed being a friendly face to the children that would use the crossing.
The challengesMoved around a lot. Had an unpleasant encounter with an unsavoury stranger that put me off the job.

The good thingsPeer support, Salary, flexible working
The challengesManagement is too focused on maintaining a WOKE culture than actually ensuring that services are being delivered correctly, lawfully and IAW expected standards and processes. If your are not considered to be embracing the expected cultural standards you will be cancelled.

Transport for NSW is a great organisation to work for with a wide range of projects constantly in the pipeline, culturally diverse and supports career development.
The good thingsGreat people to work with and a supportive environment
The challengesNo real difficulties however being a government organisation decision making can have multiple levels and this needs to be considered in project delivery.

    as above
The good thingsGood work environment good learning and development opportunity. They are hiring young staff but the department works with outdated processes and philosophy.
The challengesThe executives and directors could block you progress if you perform too good. TFNSW has secondment opportunities for staff to move around to gain knowledge and experience, but depending on the line manager this could be blocked or stopped.

    Good pay but nothing more.
The good thingsGood salary, modern office and IT equipment.
The challengesEverything is outsourced including essential IT help-desk which sometimes makes it difficult to have proper help. More than half of team members are contractors and this makes very high staff turn-over and lost know-how from team.

    Senior Manager

Look elsewhere if you are competent and motivated, because those are not the key criteria for employment or career progress
The good thingsA lot of new transport initiatives and capital projects in planning or in flight. Some really great work colleagues who try to do the right thing despite challenging corporate change management and HR conditions
The challengesHR leadership that says all the right things but does not practice what they preach. Dubious resourcing and recruitment practices. Absent leadership in many areas. Social engineering and diversity quotas are slowly and systematically destroying the capability of this organisation. Competent senior experienced staff are retiring early or leaving for the private sector. They don't want to be there anymore.

Valuable experience if you have the resilience and patience to work around constant roadblocks & challenges
The good thingsSome really dedicated people with extensive experience, genuinely committed to making the public transport experience better for the citizens of NSW, and upholding public sector values.
The challengesAt times highly reactive management decisions. New managers and leadership from private sector parachuted in to 'innovate' but who don't understand what it means to work in the public sector, or have the required networks, or credibility / track record to influence & get things done in government. Others who have been there way too long with an attitude of entitlement, are frustrating and difficult to work with, but continue to be protected by bad managers.

Good people at team levels to work with and mid level managers in a highly political environment. Not a place to learn and delivery much.
The good thingsLot of opportunities to make a difference Large organisation with a variety of jobs/roles
The challengesManagement is lethargic and lazy Easy money to spend without competition (resulting in poor use of funds) Management does not live by the values (they do talk the talk though)

Salary is great, job security, team culture and workload is terrible.
The good thingsSalary, inyeresting projects, always new things to learn
The challengesAn organisation that pretends to be progressive and equal however hires based on gender and age instead of skill and experience to raise their diversity numbers. Staff do not want to be there and make that evident in work ethic and attitude.

    No career future here
The good thingsWork / life balance. Pay is reasonable for the public service.
The challengesIt is a faceless bureaucratic dinosaur pretending to be progressive. Senior Management are all parachuted in from the private sector and have no idea how to manage the business. Restructures are endless and aimless and staff morale toxic.

Don't do it - by far the worst place I have ever worked!
The good thingsA sense (hope)of doing something for the 'greater good'.
The challengesEVERYTHING! The organisation believes it is transforming however due to the exceptionally high level of incompetence (especially leadership and HR) it will never change. Extremely toxic, political and bureaucratic culture.
