The team leader ruined my mental health!
The good thingsI have been able to meet with many people in a short time, thanks to high turnover which was directly caused by my team leader!
The challengesTeam Leader needs to be educated on leadership, empathy, communication and professionalism. She did create an envrionment where employees did not feel safe. This resulted in high staff turn over.

A system in crisis, unable to see past self fulfilment.
The good thingsPockets of people still trying to make a positive difference despite a hostile working environment. Potential for community impact, if the authoritarian, dismissive and self serving structures were addressed. A small group of staff who do get treated well, who probably cannot or don't want to see what is happening to the majority.
The challengesA culture of steam rolling and isolating anyone asking questions, having original thoughts or wanting to address concerns. Blindly get on board or get kicked down. Opportunities only for those that fit a certain 'type' of demographic. External relationships & group think; over skill, capabilities & outcomes for community. Most employees don't actually get to use the 'benefits' described in job ads, so best to lock anything down in writing before accepting a position here.

Positive shift under new leadership, with a strong need for adaptable, community focused staff.
The good thingsI have worked with this organisation for several years. While I have not always agreed with every decision made by management, the current leadership group is moving the culture in a positive direction. There is a stronger focus on collaboration and on working together to meet the needs of the local community. The service delivery environment is challenging and continues to change, particularly with workforce pressures. Staff need to be adaptable and able to respond to both organisational priorities and community needs while maintaining balance in their work.
The challengesBeing open to the organisation’s purpose and direction is important. When people remain fixed in their own way of thinking, it can be difficult for them to feel connected. A sense of connection to your work and to the organisation is important for long term success and job satisfaction in this environment. As with any workplace, there will be people who do not align with changes in direction and may find it difficult to adapt. The organisation has a clear strategy, vision, and set of values. There is a genuine effort to support staff to reflect on their work and understand how it connects to these guiding principles.
