Toxic environment, incredibly overworked and no support in health
The good thingsSome great work challenges and opportunities to grow - but was self advanced and suppported
The challengesOver 15 years, was incredibly overworked, to the point of mental breakdown. Was not supported with health related issues, no support from Top down, no care from HR, nothing but inappropriate pressues from the top, with no support. So bad, I still have nightmares - PTSD

    Not worth your mental health
The good thingsBeing a small team, it is harder for the company to skirt their obligation to offer you part time. The work itself is good when given the chance to do it properly.
The challengesExploitation is rampant. You are just a number to upper management.

My current position is an Oil Terminal Operator at the Viva Energy Australia Gore Bay Terminal Sydney, a position I have held since 2005.
The good thingsSafety is the number one priority at Viva.
The challengesI don't see any challengers.

Join as long as you have strong mental health. It can chip away bits by bits
The good thingsFuel Discount. WFH balance.
The challengesYou will perform duties as per the job advertised and they will give extra responsibilities masking it as a learning opportunity without providing any proper training. While everyone has a plate full, it is hard to get things done around yet they still blame that things are moving slowly.

I couldn't be happier. I feel really glad to work for a company that is constantly growing.
The good thingsCompared to my previous job, this company has a great culture and genuinely caring senior leaders. The company perks are also great.
The challengesAs an aviation refueler, schedules and shifts can be unpredictable. However, this is what makes the job exciting.

One of the best businesses I've ever worked for.
The good thingsViva has been a truly great place to work. I have been supported throughout various areas of personal and professional development. I've been empowered to bring my whole and authentic self to work and the business genuinely seems to care about its people.
The challengesSometimes working in a virtual environment, it can become challenging to establish and maintain interdepartmental relationships.

Exciting and motivating, even after a long busy day.
The good thingsViva Energy is extremely invested in its staff and ensuring they have all the tools to grow. When it comes to adapting our business and trying new ventures we do not shy away from the challenge, this is an extremely exciting aspect of the company.
The challengesThe challenges are the same as any work place however at the difference at Viva Energy is everyone supports you and wants to see you succeed

4.5 out of 5 would recommend to others.
The good thingsI managed to get a bit of a hybrid role that was perfect for myself and my young family. I have a lot of autonomy and there are clear goals set with clear, but not strict deadlines. There is a high degree of flexibility, my team is "results driven" not "time driven" i.e. as long as we are hitting targets, if there is any extra time, then that's up to you how to spend it. Team members are great, there is of course the usual interpersonal problems but steer clear of those. The company is a very modern, safety focused, professional company. Lots of perks if you're interested in that sort of thing. Travel is kept to a minimum which is perfect for me due to my young family. Would recommend to others to give this company a good crack, lots of opportunities if you keep the right attitude.
The challengesWorking in FNQ is hot and sweaty. Being paid monthly means having to adjust your lifestyle and budgeting. Trying not to brag to friends how lucky I am.

Glad to have seen the end of my time there.
The good thingsVery few good things to mention. Flexible working perhaps.
The challengesManagement and culture are the worst I have come across. Completely demoralising. Some of the worst professional behaviour I has ever seen, which either gets rewarded, or swept under the rug. HR is spinless to act on it. Massive staff turnover.

    A graveyard for talented people.
The good thingsMoney is above average and location is ideal for commuting.
The challengesCulture is awful despite CEO saying how proud he is of it. Some areas are toxic, especially the Consumer business. Leadership is woeful and lacks necessary experience. Only hear what they want to hear even if there is no evidence to back anything up. Really demoralising.

Lots of interesting work and you can really make a difference
The good thingsYou’re encouraged to try new things and think differently - it’s a company that’s willing to take smart risks. The business environment is challenging and complex and you’re operating on a national scale. Great customer relationships - a long-term and well respected supplier. Lots of knowledge and support that’s freely shared.
The challengesLots of obvious disrupters on the horizon - challenge is how to quickly become more agile and leading in response. Quite arrogant executive team behaviours are having a negative impact on engagement and retention in head office.

Glad I worked there but this is no longer the case really glad I no longer do
The good thingsSome of the people I worked with but they are now leaving in increasing numbers
The challengesMost if not all of the good people have gone, new management are clueless in how to treat people. Anyone who is thinking of joining Viva Energy at the Geelong Refinery should look elsewhere. The management is incompetent and lack focus and true vision. This is not the case for the remainder of Viva Energy it just a Geelong thing so be advised by someone who recently left, think carefully and look elsewhere

Business is trying to become more efficient post Shell divestment, but in some instances these changes are having adverse affects on staff
The good thingsReasonable work life balance at the refinery. Culture is not too work excessive hours
The challengesSince Shell divestment poor managers have stayed, good managers have gone. Salary increases are poor. Promotion does not equal pay increase. Poor performance management system. Poor culture which has been demonstrated by internal engagement surveys Below average salaries by oil and gas standards

The worst place I've ever worked in my career
The good thingsSome employment opportunities in Geelong. Emphasis on 'some'. Half the workforce is turning over and EBAs are falling apart.
The challengesTerrible pay. Zero opportunities for development. No time for training. Nil knowledge retention, so can't even learn on the job. Uncooperative operators. Incompetent engineers. Atrocious managers. Shoestring budgets. Lethargic bureaucracy. Gold-plated engineering. Continual use of ineffective Shell standards. Malicious compliance. Excessive reliance on prescriptive, rigid procedures.
