Wish I had not gone there.
The good thingsMost of the people are nice, the residents are nice and the intent is admirable.
The challengesThere is no doubt the organisation does important work, but the approach it takes to doing it is just poor. So much time is wasted, so much money is wasted and there is really a lack of clarity around direction. What is particularly disappointing is the values it claims to live by. The reality of it all is it does not practice them, they are purely there for optics. Would I put my parents in Warrigal home, absolutely not.

Just poor, save yourself the effort and get a real job.
The good thingsThe people are nice, the residents are a delight to work with.
The challengesThe organisation is confused, becoming too too heavy with chiefs and has ideals which it does not abide by.

    Regret not leaving sooner,
The good thingsMy position was the best part of this over all experience being able to provide care for the residents
The challengesPoor culture amongst staff, Mostly old staff who are cranky and should retire. Reporting things and it not being followed up on. Being expected to do so much with little staff. Having high care residents in a facility that was built for low care. Limited support from management. No recognition.

This place will wear you down. Do your mental health a favour and look elsewhere.
The good thingsGood team members and supporting older people.
The challengesToxic exec. team. If you don't go to the right church you'll never get anywhere. Chronically understaffed and not interested in staff wellbeing. Too focused on growing the business instead of fixing things at the existing facilities.

Loved the job. Toxic environment and archaic management practices and I would recommend anyone to look elsewhere.
The good thingsFlexible working conditions - making a difference in the lives of older people
The challengesToxic culture - management favour some staff over others

I would highly suggest that applicants look for alternate options if available
The good thingsThe role in general is very rewarding when you assist and care for the older population
The challengesThis Wollongong site has lot of favouritism towards a few staff, staff stay in their groups including the managers and choose not to even acknowledge you at times, special privileges for the favourite ones, biased culture at workplace, no recognition or appreciation by site managers and resistant to positive change

Change was not a good thing at Warrigal, care has gone
The good thingsSupporting older people, some really dedicated frontline staff and managers
The challengesNew management only wears the values as a coat they just take off when need to advance their own agenda. Integrity is a big issue for most of leadership team, a lot of money spent in senior admin staff and self promotion rather than supporting the doers.

The challengesLimited willingness of management to change and improve processes. Poor placement of people into management roles leading to confusion with work roles and responsibilities and low productivity.

I don't know how I lasted as long as I did.
The good thingsDiverse Staff, close to public transport (Coniston)
The challengesSome older staff make it their life mission to make new staff members feel miserable while at work. Management have no disciplinary action in place for said staff members, and wonders why they can't keep any new starters past a couple months. Some staff are lovely to work with, but you shouldn't have to come into work feeling anxious about who you will be working with for the day. Perhaps if the government brings in staff to resident ratios for the aged care sector that would matter a whole lot less, but for now, it can make you want to go home crying.

The site I worked at was awesome, Great place to work
The good thingsPhysiotherapy services are amazing, The Physio management team are awesome. It is great that it is internal rather than external I felt like part of the team. Whole team is lovely and resident focused. Lifestyle teams do a phenomenal job at supporting lifestyle needs and emotional needs of residents
The challengesTight quality control sometimes leads to reduced speed in change. Technology/Wifi - opportunity for improvement Can see benefits from investment in lifestyle opportunities

    Poor management and unorganised
The good thingsI learnt a lot working here as it was the first time in the ages care industry, every day was definitely different but in a good way. Also a lot of the customers were really sweet and caring.
The challengesTerrible management, no point of contact, I found it really hard to contact the head of management as it was very unorganised and all over the place.

The good thingsThe residents are lovely, almost worth putting up with nasty for them. When the horrible employees aren't there you won't be picked on.
The challengesManagement don't care, staff don't care about residents, not enough english speaking staff.

ok, it was a job, would never return unless I had no other choice.
The good thingsSome of the staff, Flexible working hours - depending which area you work in.
The challengesLow staff numbers - has been this way for along time, Poor management in the top chain, no chance of climbing the ladder unless you are related or go to the lighthouse church, upper management are mostly connected in some way, ( friends, family,) it doesnt make for good management.

    Aged Care Physiotherapist
    Nov 2019
3 to 4 years in the role, current employee
Best Aged Care experience I’ve had is with warrigal, as they employ their Physio’s, which gives greater support and sense of team.
The good thingsPhysio Management is approachable and listens. Can implement initiatives and innovations quickly and more sustainable, than in NSW Health. Fee a sense of team work, as Warrigal employs its OWN staff Physio’s, so we get to know team and Resident’s far better, and feel far more connected to the organisation than if we were sub-contracting. Salary Packaging available.
The challengesTypical challenges that everyone onAged Care sector experiences: low ratios, overstretched, low level of qualifications and expertise, very poor medical back up from GP’s and clinical follow through. ACFI funding, rather than clinical solutions drive Physio intervention. Physio work can be boring, you just have to vary and come up with creative ways to motivate residents and use goals and themes to give incentive.
