Good opportunities for new starters to grasp the fundamentals for government / Public sector.
The good thingsGreat team culture within the working groups, flexible working, access to technology support.
The challengessometimes feels like a silo'd environment, teams often working to get the job done rather and innovate and improve. Limited capacity new systems, but understand the different needs of systems and services with the org.

Great people and a friendly atmosphere to work in with lots of career opportunities.
The good thingsWorking with great people, a friendly culture and a fantastic brand new office in Lilydale. Also plenty of flexible and hybrid options to support how I work. Having an awesome boss was a plus too.
The challengesInducting new starters remotely was a little challenging at times.

Life is too short to work at Yarra Ranges Council, there are far better places to work, develop skills and be respected for your efforts.
The good thingsWork in great small, county towns and communities.
The challengesHas a very toxic corporate culture. Good staff are regularly performance managed so that their coordinators can demonstrate they capable of managing staff. There is no commitment to working with staff to improve skills or understandings of their jobs, just a steady stream of good staff forced to leave jobs they previously enjoyed and performed well in other organizations.

Toxic, political environment not a place to work if you wish to learn and progress in your career.”
The good thingsGreat organisation and location to work. Ample opportunities to improve customer / citizen satisfaction.
The challengesToxic workplace. Many staff are stuck in their comfort zone for a very long time and not interested to progress, improve its services, and provide a better experience to their customers. High staff turnover due to toxic, political environment.

The people are fantastic, learning and experiences are abundant. If you’re looking for variety, this organisation is for you!
The good thingsExcellent opportunities to get involved in different projects. The people are fantastic, diverse experiences and so many opportunities to learn in a diverse organisation
The challengesDifficult to say - so many benefits of this organisation when compared to private enterprise. I would recommend that everyone immerses themselves into the broad variety and experiences of local government

Poor one on one training. There is no structure to training and it very hands on learning - sink or swim method.
The good thingsThe hours are great. The facilities are good.
The challengesThe personalities are a little difficult to navigate at times. Especially lower level management.

Bar the great people I met, as a whole it’s a very negative place to work for due to appalling management.
The good thingsGeneral staff are great.
The challengesManagement has a lot to be desired. Micro managing is bad.

If the management was better, this would be an amazing place to work.
The good thingsGreat space with great co workers. Venues are clean and fun to be in.
The challengesManagement are terrible, it can be suffocating when they are around. The event service officer role has no room for a life. You don’t have a single solid day a week or ability to know what hours you will work that week.

As mentioned above a very supportive work-colleagues-group I have experienced in my 45 year career.
The good thingsGreat work colleagues and a very supportive environment.
The challengesIt is challenging to make positive by sharing your work experience as the management is very slow to adapt and accept changes. Management very often thinks in terms of being a small organisation and therefore bot necessary to be at the forefront in innovation and dynamic.

Has loads of potential to do great things, but is held back by managements fear of success of above average individuals.
The good thingsWorked with a lot of good, honest people with great ideas.
The challengesTend to preach organisational values they don't adhere to. Found it to be excessively over-managed. Falls into a strict hierarchy structure, despite whats marketed to staff.

Coming from the corporate sector I have never worked with a more supportive selfless group of people who want to be doing what they are doing for the community.
The good thingsGreat team environment. Surounded by supportive people who generally are seeking to provide the best possible service to our rate payers.
The challengesFinding something we can not do now and then working out how I can get it done.

My experience, in the capacity I work, I am very happy working for the Shire, though I do wish I could get a administrative role within, which I know I could do, but haven't been given the chance to do.
The good thingsI love working in the capacity I work in, the job is great, the management is great and work and home balance is wonderful.
The challengesTrying to get into another position within the shire seems to be impossible even though I already have the position I have. Have applied for other positions within many times over the past few years, but cannot even get to interview stage. So in this regard, I rate them poorly. I would have thought that I could have at least got to interview stage, considering I am already employed with them, but to no avail. This is very disappointing. In my capacity I do not get any benefits or perks, so in this regard I cannot tell you what they are like, but in other departments, I'm sure they are ok, depending on what job you are doing within the shire.

A nightmare of process and micromanagement.
The good thingsSome of the people were delightful, and the work life balance had great promise.
The challengesA risk averse and process driven organisation that resembled a Monty Python contraption - bits have been bolted on over the years in response to crises, and never streamlined. Some inexperienced and insecure management provided the final wax coat to this rattling machine. I fear for the mental health of anyone employed in the same department.
