Sophia was lovely to deal with and I do believe she was trying to be supportive. However, I found the approach to be reactive rather than proactive, and that is not what I expect from a specialist Health and Safety recruiter.
After I started, Sophia advised that she would normally meet with the client to properly understand the role and confirm expectations. In this instance, the role was tied to her colleague’s client and that level of screening and verification did not occur prior to placement. While an apology was provided, it came after I had already commenced.
There were also key requirements that were not communicated prior to contract signing. For example, a White Card requirement was not listed in the position description shared by the recruiter or raised during interviews yet was requested immediately after commencement.
Overall, I would expect stronger due diligence upfront, including confirming mandatory tickets and requirements, reporting lines, and role expectations, so candidates can make an informed decision before accepting an offer.
