The importance of recognising and implementing workplace diversity and inclusion

The Promoting Real Inclusion, Diversity and Empowerment (P.R.I.D.E) in the workplace report  paints a stark picture of the experiences of members of LGBTIQA+ communities in Australian workplaces.

The report focuses on workplace challenges these communities face, the effects of workplace discrimination and how employers and colleagues can better support LGBTIQA+ people at work. 

Research from the report highlights that despite organisations making significant improvements to diversity and inclusion policies and practices over recent years, there is still work to be done to support LGBTIQA+ employees and combat discrimination in the workplace. 

SEEK has partnered with national LGBTIQA+ organisation The Equality Project to provide tips and guidance for businesses looking to foster a more inclusive environment for LGBTIQA+ communities within the workplace. 

Tips to get started

1. Communicate workplace expectations through policies such as a code of conduct.
2. Display LGBTIQA+-friendly visual cues to indicate the environment is a safe space.
3. Update employee and customer forms and signage to include gender-neutral language.
