What's it like to be a Bus Driver?
Bus Drivers are responsible for transporting passengers from one place to another by bus. Bus Drivers typically drive buses along consistent routes, making scheduled stops to pick up and drop off passengers. Some Bus Drivers do long-haul driving from one state to another, picking up and dropping off passengers at singular destinations only. Tasks and duties
- Checking tickets and transport passes.
- Ensuring the bus does not fill over capacity.
- Helping differently-abled passengers get on or off the bus.
- Driving the route knowledgeably and safely.
- Ensuring travel rules are not broken by passengers on the bus.
- Maintaining and monitoring the vehicle’s parts and fuel level.
How to become a Bus Driver
There are special licensing requirements to become a Bus Driver, which may vary depending on the state licensing authority.
- 1.Obtain a state-issued unrestricted drivers’ licence, and then apply and qualify for a special licence that allows you to drive larger vehicles such as buses. Contact your local motor registry to find out which licence/s you need in your state.
- 2.Hold a clean driving record.
- 3.You may need to complete a bus driving training course. State transit authorities usually have their own courses.
- 4.You can also complete a Certificate III in Driving Operations (TLI31216) at TAFE or a private training college.
- 5.To gain experience in this industry and to boost your resume, you can also volunteer as a driver.
