What's it like to be a Delivery Driver?
Delivery Drivers operate vehicles such as cars, vans, trucks and motorcycles to collect goods and transport them to their destination. Delivery Drivers may pick up and deliver a range of items including food, furniture, white goods and equipment.Did you find this video helpful?
Tasks and duties
- Ensuring deliveries are received on time and in optimal condition.
- Offering exceptional customer service at all times.
- Completing all delivery related paperwork, e.g manifests, POD's etc
- Multi-drop deliveries and pick-ups.
- Manually loading/unloading products.
- Ensuring driving style is at all times law abiding and professional.
How to become a Delivery Driver
Formal qualifications are not usually required to become a Delivery Driver in Australia, as on-the-job training is generally provided. However, if you wish to drive heavy vehicles you’ll need to ensure you have the appropriate drivers licence.
- 1.Decide what kind of deliveries you want to make and the sort of vehicle you want to drive. Explore opportunities to become a Delivery Driver through a traineeship. While entry requirements vary, employers usually require that you have successfully completed of Year 10.
- 2.If you want to upgrade to drive Light Rigid (LR), Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) vehicles, you may need to attend a heavy vehicle driving school and sit an assessment.
- 3.To gain experience in the industry and to boost your resume, you can also volunteer as a driver.
