Business Managers are experienced leaders who are primarily responsible for the administration and financial control of a business or organisation. The primary role of a Business Manager is to ensure that an organisation’s finances are in good order. They work in a range of industries such as banks, schools, hospitals, restaurants, hotels and corporations. The specifics of a Business Manager’s tasks tend to depend on which industry they are working within.
Tasks and duties
- Preparing and overseeing the administration of budgets, cash flow, account payments and financial planning in order to ensure an organisation meets its financial goals.
- Advising leaders and stakeholders on financial, compliance and organisational matters.
- Overseeing the day-to-day running of particular departments such as HR, marketing, administration or sales.
How to become a Business Manager
There are many pathways to becoming a Business Manager, but most candidates complete a relevant tertiary qualification and have extensive experience leading people and processes.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree in management, commerce, business or a related field. Alternatively, a VET qualification such as a Diploma of Business (BSB50120) can introduce you to the business skills required for the role.
- 2.Consider advancing your skills with a relevant postgraduate degree, such as a Master of Business Administration.
- 3.Gain extensive industry experience and seek leadership roles that focus on key skills such as management, communication, budgeting and planning.
