What's it like to be a Court Registry Officer?
Court Officers support the smooth and efficient running of a courtroom. Court Officers divide their time between an office and the courtroom.
Tasks and duties
- Escorting judges to and from chambers.
- Managing courtroom allocations.
- Announcing court sessions.
- Calling witnesses to the stand.
- Administering the oath.
- Keeping records and maintaining evidence archives.
- Liaising with police, legal teams and social workers.
How to become a Court Registry Officer
No formal qualifications are required to become a Court Officer, but a qualification may be an advantage when seeking employment.
- 1.Consider completing a Certificate II in Justice Services (CSC20115) to gain an introduction to the justice system.
- 2.Alternatively, consider a Certificate IV in Legal Services (BSB42215) to build on your knowledge.
- 3.Consider a Bachelor of Law if you want to take your career to the next level. It will take 4-5 years to complete full-time, depending on prior study. You’ll need to have completed year 12 and gained a satisfactory ATAR, or apply for special entry.
