Governance Officers provide administrative and operational support to a Governance Manager. Governance Officers help companies prevent fraud and avoid potential liabilities. Their expertise is also used by organisations to manage risks and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.Tasks and duties
- Supporting the Governance Manager to comply with all relevant legal and statutory requirements.
- Providing corporate governance and risk management support to the corporate governance team.
- Ensuring all corporate governance requirements are clearly communicated and adhered to throughout the organisation.
- Reviewing corporate governance procedures and policies.
- Taking minutes at corporate governance meetings.
- Drafting committee meeting papers and briefs and reporting on corporate governance matters.
- Regularly reviewing governance processes and recommending and implementing changes to ensure continuous improvement.
How to become a Governance Officer
To become a Governance Officer, you typically need a relevant tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated experience in the field.
- 1.Complete a relevant VET qualification such as a Diploma or Business (Compliance). Alternatively, a bachelor degree can open up a broader range of career options. You could study a Bachelor of Business Administration or Bachelor of Law.
- 2.Gain work experience in roles that focus on governance, compliance and risk management.
