What's it like to be an Intelligence Analyst?
Intelligence Analysts gather, analyse and validate information used in political and military intelligence strategies. They track developments in military, political, social and cultural matters in order to identify and advise on threats to national security.Tasks and duties
- Analysing information from a variety of classified and unclassified sources.
- Evaluating information that may be incomplete, contradictory or of questionable reliability.
- Engaging multiple sources to verify intelligence data.
- Meeting with subject matter experts and developing subject matter expertise.
- Preparing and editing reports, presentations and assessments in a fast-paced environment.
- Researching and analysing domestic and global military, political, social and cultural developments.
- Briefing senior public servants, military officials and other government departments.
How to become an Intelligence Analyst
In order to become an Intelligence Analyst, you must be an Australian citizen. Completing a bachelor degree will allow entrance into a graduate program. Completion of background checks, security assessments and psychological assessments may be required.
- 1.Hold Australian citizenship.
- 2.Complete a bachelor degree. Preferred majors include: politics, international relations, economics, history, social sciences, language, science, engineering or mathematics. Prerequisites will vary depending on your chosen provider and course of study, but generally require completion of Australian Year 12 (or equivalent).
- 3.Seek out graduate placement opportunities within the Department of Defence, ASIO, ASIS or other government departments.
- 4.Undergo background checks, security assessments and psychological assessments (where applicable).
