What's it like to be a Mentor?
Mentors provide guidance and support to individuals to help them achieve their goals. They commonly work in youth work, disability support and career development. They work with clients to set and achieve goals, offer advice on overcoming challenges and provide resources for skill development. Mentors often work in community organisations, educational institutions and non-profit settings. This role usually requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, patience and a genuine desire to help others succeed.
Tasks and duties
- Leading one-on-one and group support sessions to guide mentees in their personal and professional development.
- Assisting mentees in setting achievable goals and creating action plans to reach them.
- Offering advice and resources for overcoming challenges.
- Monitoring and tracking progress, providing feedback and encouragement.
- Collaborating with community organisations, educational institutions and other stakeholders to support the needs of clients.
- Conducting workshops and training sessions to enhance skills and confidence.
