What's it like to be a Pizza Chef?
Pizza Chefs are professional cooks, trained in all aspects of food preparation, but specialising in making pizza. They traditionally work in pizzerias. Pizza Chefs have to be knowledgeable about ingredients and cooking techniques.
Tasks and duties
- Make pizza dough from scratch, then arrange raw dough into its corresponding sizes and respective dough trays.
- Operate wood fire, gas and electric pizza ovens.
- Design a menu and source and order the required produce and ingredients.
How to become a Pizza Chef
There are no required qualifications to become a pizza Chef, but it’s common for people to complete an apprenticeship and gain a general vocational qualification such as a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (SIT30816).
- 1.Complete a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (SIT30816) as part of an apprenticeship as a Pizza Chef.
- 2.During your apprenticeship, absorb all the knowledge you can. Due to specialised nature of being a Pizza Chef, most valuable experience will be obtained on the job.
