What's it like to be a Systems Analyst?
As a Systems Analyst you will be responsible for maintaining and improving computer systems for an organisation and its clients. You will evaluate processes used in existing IT systems, and propose modifications, additional system components or new systems to meet user requirements.
Tasks and duties
- Collaborating with users, Business Analysts, Project Leads and IT team to resolve issues and ensure solutions are viable and consistent.
- Analysing business processes, procedures and work practices to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
- Maintaining and upgrading existing systems as required.
- Designing new computer systems and frameworks.
- Creating user and training documentation, and conducting formal training.
- Developing functional specifications for use by System Developers.
How to become a Systems Analyst
Although many Systems Analysts are self-taught or have learned their programming skills on the job, most organisations will require you to have some formal qualification.
- 1.Complete a Diploma of Information Technology (Systems Analysis) (ICT50220), or an undergraduate degree such as a Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Information Technology or Bachelor of Business Administration.
- 2.Gain experience working with computer systems.
