- Preparing, mixing, cutting and shaping dough ready for baking.
- Preparing sweet and savoury pastry and dough fillings, rolling out pastry and creating a variety of baked goods.
- Monitoring proving, cooking and cooling times, in addition to ensuring the appearance of items is consistent.
How to become a Baker
To become a baker in Australia you usually have to complete an apprenticeship or traineeship. Employers generally require that you have completed year 10.
- 1.Complete an apprenticeship or traineeship. An Apprenticeship Network provider or Group Training Organisation in your area can help you find a host employer and start your apprenticeship.
- 2.Alternatively, complete a qualification in baking, such as a Certificate III in Bread Baking (FBP30417) or Certificate III in Baking (FBP30517) through a Registered Training Organisation.
- 3.There are numerous employment opportunities available to bakers who want to progress their careers, such as becoming a chef or pastry cook.
