Factory Workers work on a production line, operating machinery and tools, monitoring machines, and may clean and repair equipment as required. Tasks and duties
- Operating machinery in a production facility. This may include rotating and working on different equipment or specialising in one particular process.
- Following health and safety regulations in order to ensure the quality of the product being produced and the wellbeing of staff.
- Maintaining and cleaning machinery as required and reporting any problems to senior staff.
How to become a Factory Worker
Formal qualifications are not required to become a Factory Worker, however previous experience in a processing or manufacturing environment is usually desirable. Depending on the industry you are working in, you may also need specific certification (such as a national police clearance or a forklift licence).
- 1.Choose an industry to work in. Factory Workers may be employed in a number of different industries, such as food, transport and logistics, construction and automotive.
- 2.Apply for entry-level positions and investigate whether you require any additional qualifications or need to provide your own personal protective equipment (such as a hard hat or safety boots).
- 3.Consider taking part in on-the-job training or completing a TAFE course to build on the knowledge you’ve acquired on the job.
