What's it like to be a Technical Business Analyst?
Technical Business Analysts are responsible for overseeing the implementation of technical business projects and solutions. Technical Business Analysts work with stakeholders and technical team members to map, analyse and document business processes and projects.
Tasks and duties
- Gathering requirements and acceptance criteria and scoping new projects.
- Documenting technical requirements.
- Facilitating workshops and assessing and documenting options.
- Undertaking systems testing.
How to become a Technical Business Analyst
While there are many pathways to becoming a Technical Business Analyst, a degree related to your industry is usually required. Some employers prefer candidates with experience using Agile project management methodologies and a basic understanding of programming languages.
- 1.Complete a degree relevant to your chosen field of work. This could be a Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Information Technology or Bachelor of Commerce.
- 2.If you haven’t already, consider learning the basics of relevant computer programming languages, such as Structured Query Language (SQL) and Python.
- 3.Build experience in entry-level roles that introduce you to Agile project management methodologies, as well as any software and/or programming languages that are relevant to your future role. A short course or bootcamp may help you develop relevant skills.
