Poor management and no opportunity of career progression
The good thingsCoworkers are nice and helpful
The challengesLittle to no opportunity of career progression. Poor management, high performers get punished with more work and bad performers get sheltered and rewarded

Toxic work environment. A job if you're desperate but not recommended.
The good thingsGood pay for casual and a starting job for students introducing them retail. The hours given were good weekly.
The challengesYou're just a number. Upper management is toxic and only only at the sales and losses. Mental health is not acknowledged here and is treated as nothing. Most of of the staff are toxic and want to see you fail. The expect you to do more than you pay rate and shoulder more responsibilities if other staff are lazy or unable to finish a tasks. There's no extra pay for training.

Fast paced, big responsibilities for no recognition or reward
The good thingsThe customers really love having a welcoming friendly environment, so its a good opportunity to showcase great customer service in a fast paced environment. Good opportunity for anyone who wants to know how to work on their own.
The challengesThe management only offers full time management roles, at very average pay range for the amount of work you will have to do. Or casual operator roles, with management responsibilities but no job security. Staff are required to work on their own regardless of the hours. A lot of criticism and micro managing from management above store level, but no real acknowledgement of achievements or outstanding work. It's not really a team environment, but you're required to use your own devices for communication and employment management, including accessing training whilst you are on shift, by yourself. Very high turnover of staff. No breaks, because they've made the contracts not retail related. Not really recommended for anyone familiar with fair work rights

Over five years at 7-Eleven, I’ve grown from an overnight team member to a Store Manager by embracing challenges, staying committed, and being part of a diverse, supportive team.
The good thingsI started at 7-Eleven as an overnight team member and, over five years, worked my way up to Store Leader. The company offers real opportunities for growth if you’re motivated and committed. The workplace is very diverse, and I’ve always felt part of a supportive team. One of the biggest positives is the leadership—my senior leaders have always had my back, even stepping in to help with small things like cleaning cobwebs. That kind of hands-on support makes a big difference.
The challengesLike most retail jobs, there are challenges—mainly staff turnover and tight labor hour budgets. These can be difficult, but I’ve learned it really comes down to the attitude you bring. If you stay focused, adaptable, and lead by example, you can manage through anything. There’s always help available if you ask for it.

7-Eleven is the best place I have ever worked
The good thingsI love the people that I work with, the leadership higher up is fantastic and it flows down to store level. The role challenges me differently every day, but it great to see the company is so committed to improving its process' and making the admin side of the role super easy! I love starting at 6am and finishing at 12 or 2 pm each day and my team are so well trained that I get to enjoy my time after work without interuptions. I also like that my age wasn't held against me working here, there's people of every age as team members and managers. The higher ups treat me as a person not a number and safety is always their first priority. Thanks 7-Eleven I have loved working here for over 5 years and being promoted into management from team member.
The challengesThe only challenge I face is making sure I get all my tasks done within 38 hours so I can finish on time and enjoy my afternoons and weekend.

I would never recommend anyone applying there.
The good thingsThe base salary is good to start with.
The challengesTraining was minimal and left managers unprepared. Nepotism was obvious, with favourites given opportunities over capable staff. KPI targets for bonuses were unrealistic and unachievable. Cleanliness was disgraceful — some sites had visible mould and ignored basic health and safety. Less than four hours a month were allocated for cleaning, which is unacceptable. Managers were expected to handle unrealistic admin loads with no time or relevant support. A toxic, unsustainable work environment overall.

    Varied experiences await
The good thingsSome customers genuinely appreciate your assistance; especially when using the app to attain cheaper fuel prices; the food range in store too for customers is generally better than other service stations especially in the local area.
The challengesPersonality clashes My 7/11 app failing which leads to frustrated customers A lack of understanding by those above store level that what works in metropolitan areas doesn’t translate in regional locations.

Rushed, in sufficient training, no breaks during 8 hour shift, no training for some things, crazy and unreasonable tasks to complete, demanding physically, have to multi task, disrespect from Management.
The good thingsNothing, maybe the pay rates.
The challengesInsufficient training, not enough shifts.

    Just don't.
The good thingsHonestly, not a lot to comment on if at all.
The challengesOverworked, underpaid. Dealing with franchise owners is a nightmare because they've all bought in to their stores, so they feel they are entitled to treat the call center staff terribly, then there is no backup from your direct managers outside of saying you could have done better.

zero life balance and zero support from field management
The good thingsthe immediate staff you work with
The challengesplenty, tight labour budgets with extreme daily tasks, having to multi task all the time, no time for breaks and even finding time to use the toilet can be difficult, no support in operational management but expect a lot from you, there is ZERO life balance as a manager with being on call for a 24/7 company.

    disjointed management to staff connection
The good thingsmanagement try and create a supportive environment through group chats
The challengesno break times, often doing shifts alone. expectations from management and corporate aren’t realistic. massive lack of training. my management only communicates issues via a group chat and not personally with people which isn’t helpful for growth and learning. if your store isn’t doing well financially you will be punished with small hours per week and no double cover during peak times, then be encouraged to have good customer service as that increases sales revenue when it’s largely out of your hands how well the store does. lack of flexibility

My fellow managers are a great support system!
The good thingsI genuinely enjoy what I do here as a 7-Eleven manager. If you build ur team and store up, it can be quiet rewarding. A lot of my co-workers are very supportive and I have found I can rely on them if I’m going through a stressful situation in the company.
The challengesLike all companies, there are area’s of opportunities for 7-Eleven. Supporting their managers should be first priority however it does often go on the back burner. Having little support does put a lot of stress on you.

You are only a number. 711 do not practice what they preach!
The good thingsImmediate people you work with are what makes your day
The challengesMoving to agile ways of working saw a large amount of long term, highly experienced people being made redundant yet kept a lot of the monkeys. Recognition not given on merit rather on who you know or which group of people you mingle with. No empathy / sympathy from management when it comes to personal issues. Instead they come across as annoyed that you need to take time off
