Despite your efforts, you will end up feeling like just a number.
The good thingsSalary & constant stream of challenges to keep you occupied.
The challengesThe following are unique to the Rollingstock division: Training is limited with unclear processes, complex software systems and ambiguous roles due to a layered organizational hierarchy. These factors contribute to a lack of cohesion within the team, making collaboration and accountability challenging. Management is heavily focused on project delivery and fails to address operational issues or support career growth. A lack of strategic foresight from leadership contributes to low job security. Managers from overseas are brought in transform the site but lack experience in guiding teams and promote an authoritarian manager-employee relationship. The company tries to be Agile but fails due to short-term thinking and poor problem comprehension.

Appreciated the experience and the pay but wouldn’t recommend.
The good thingsThe pay seems to be above average. There was a great work culture in my local office.
The challengesToxic work culture in certain teams and at certain locations, with management unwilling to address. In fact, you would be reprimanded for trying to be part of a solution. Higher management seemed to protect each other and complaints filed to HR didn’t receive adequate responses, if any.

The challengesNil, Alstom has been very supportive and engaging.

I probably would not recommend working for Alstom, unless a lot changed.
The good things- The people (workers) were great and friendly, we always had a good time together, but a lot have left. Interesting industry and project, has potential.
The challenges- Not enough staff, staff feeling frustrated and overloaded with responsibility, lack of support, long term staff not recognised or appreciated, feedback not implemented. Continual challenges without improvement. Aggressive management at times. No culture. No real career progression.

It should be a great long term job, but unfortunately anyone with ambition cannot work here.
The good thingsCompany provides additional leave (bridging days), some really good guys on the floor who make it tolerable
The challengesManagement are employing a sweat shop routine. Very difficult to take pride in building anything when things either prefabricated overseas or employ practices which would be questioned outside of Alstom. Every minute of your day tracked with a tablet. Workplace is freezing in winter and ridiculously hot in summer.

Great company with a good reputation.
The good thingsMy manager, and most of the people I work with. Improvements are being made in process and procedures, even though there are some within the business who are afraid to change (but they tend to leave pretty quickly).
The challengesSome of the people I work with lack an understanding of professional boundaries and some of the IT support team are in over their heads.

Has potential to be a great site, but currently not great.
The good thingsExcellent, active, supportive factory floor supervisors. Fellow employees are very good, diverse, supportive crew to work with.
The challengesSenior manager and HR veiw workers as "the enemy". Very disorganised, poorly functioning systems of work. Lots and lots and lots of time spent searching for very limited tools and missing parts. Trade experience is not valued.

    Do not work for Alstom
The good thingsSometimes they supply milk and coffee.
The challengesManagement are unsupportive. An us vs them mentality is rife. Some of the most incompetent people you will meet. There is NO formal training, everything is "on the job". Alstom have an enormous blue collar worker turnover. Everyone is miserable, nobody enjoys their job.

High hopes, so much disappointment. A big company offering a lot but not delivering. Customers are important, staff are not.
The good thingsPotential room for moving internally within the company to different locations around the world
The challengesThe amount of unnecessary red tape almost prevents you from carrying out your tasks. Staff morale needs to be looked at. Lack of guidance with onboarding.
