Terrible place to work, would not recommend foyer.
The good thingsThe clients and the program itself is incredible.
The challengesMy experience was very negative overall. Management felt unprofessional, with favouritism and poor boundaries affecting the culture. Progression did not seem fair or based on merit, which had a clear impact on morale. The environment was not welcoming, and many staff appeared uncomfortable speaking up because they did not believe concerns would lead to change.

I found my fit in this organisation.
The good thingsThe teams are amazing, line management is supportive, and there are ongoing opportunities for professional development both internally and externally. Excellent mentorship and leadership training. Really diverse staffing, experiences and acknowledgment of those diversities, with both support and ability to walk alongside to learn more.
The challengesIn all organisations, there are politics and upsets. I think that Anglicare WA is good at managing this, and when aware of dissonance, they work with the people. Something to be improved in this would be to expand the process and make sure they are not excluding people based on someone else's story, regardless of the relationship.

The position did not provide a psychologically safe or sustainable working environment.
The good things- The Young People, whom are all working hard to grow and improve their lives and are a pleasure to work. - Central location on Oxford Street, lots of cafes and access to good coffee. - Provision of laptops, mobile phones, bursary etc. - Above average family friendly working conditions, good work/life balance. - Anglicare WA is a fantastic organisation, unfortunately their Leederville Youth Service is not at the standard of Anglicare WA's other services and has long had a culture that is far below what is considered healthy or appropriate for their workers.
The challenges- Very cliquey environment, lack of information sharing amongst workers holding same clients, territorial case managers. - CM team not welcoming to new staff and lots of conflict within the team. - High staff turn over. - Lots of meetings, impacting the time that can be spent with clients, rarely an outcome after any meeting. - Staff not up-skilled in areas of importance relating to youth homelessness. and are working within older models. - A lack of diversity amongst the workers. - No parking provided and difficult to get affordable paid parking in the area.

Demoralising, as soon as I can get another job, I'm out.
The good thingsFelt welcome initially, until management changed. Enjoy the contact with the target group supported by the program. Some staff (not local) are great to deal with.
The challengesEquality in how staff are treated by local management and teams. Only those who work in the high profile programs are valued. Site manager is never there, always on leave, has limited management skills. Employee ability to brown nose to the manager and the purple circle dictate how they are viewed and valued (or not) by other staff. Top dogs who are in charge and supposed to oversee the local management processes have no clue how bad things are. Staff whinge to each other but are too scared to stand up and expose the poor management.

Very regrettable experience and wish I left earlier.
The good thingsWorking with the clients. Seeing meaningful change and expression of gratitude.
The challenges- Nepotism. It’s more about who you rub shoulders with to get ahead. Management friendly and supportive of some staff, but there’s no equity in this. - Lack of psychological safety provided by management as well as differing standards of accountability across different individuals. - Management not prepared to do the the things they ask of you themselves and lack work ethic. - Make sure you try to negotiate your wage before starting. They will try to put you on the lowest increment level and won’t budge even if you have years of experience and multiple university qualifications.

The best place I have ever worked.
The good thingsThe overall support I received from all the staff was like non other. I received a personal phone call from the CEO on my first day, ongoing support from Management and team members. I felt very welcome and included. It was like having a second family.
The challengesFor me, there wasn't any challenges. If I did have any concerns or needed support with a client there was always support and guidance.

Anglicare WA are welcoming and encouraging and offer a great place to work and be part of real impact.
The good thingsAnglicare WA truly live out their values - from the CEO to frontline staff and everyone in-between. They encourage creative ways to work, ensure services are genuinely place based and are considerate to all the differing needs for employees to succeed.
The challengesAs with any large organisation, there is bound to be pressure/tension points - and during my time with Anglicare WA, the level of accountability of corporate services as opposed service delivery and the intersection of both areas was not always balanced evenly.

The Kindest People You Will Ever Know
The good thingsBy far the best part of Anglicare WA (AWA) is the people. There are over 700 employees and volunteers, but I've never had a single bad interaction (or anything close). Finance, Reception, frontline services, P&C, Exec--everyone is so lovely, and it makes for a positive, welcoming culture. I always feel safe and respected, especially in my own team. Other things I love about AWA: - everyone's commitment to reconciliation, - the organisation values, - having managers who care so much, - the learning and development, - the energy of inclusion and acceptance, - salary packaging, - and perhaps most of all, our client support services and the passionate staff at the frontline.
The challengesOf course, everyone's extremely busy and a bit overworked--as is always the way with nonprofits--but great culture, flexibility and caring managers go a long way to preventing burnout.

    Innovative, rewarding and memorable experience.
The good thingsMost of the people. I think everyone should work in a not for profit at least once to see the dedication given to the community. It makes it feel like the world isn’t that bad after all. Worked with some brilliant people who were kind, supportive, not afraid to tackle a big piece of work, all while having a laugh. Wonderful culture that fosters trying something new to achieve better outcomes for staff and clients. In the L&D space running training then hearing the direct impact it had in supporting clients was powerful and career rewarding.
The challengesAs you would expect in a not for profit, lack of money and an endless list of wanting to improve things for the community makes achieving everything you want to be able to do challenging. Personally in my role: - Due to the way programs are funded and budgets allocated, coupled with the organisations approach of decentralizing cost centres, providing even basic ‘bread and butter’ learning and development opportunities, was at times, challenging. - Strategic plan tended to determine where funding would go, which made achieving some operational projects that needed to be addressed difficult, unless they were “flashy and new”. Given this, these challenges at times made the role more enriching as you had to think creatively to get things done.

management and staff treatment deteriorated rapidly over last 2 years
The good thingsgreat co workers, good stated core values.
The challengesPoor and unqualified managers/supervisors, no chance of advancement, management play favourites for any roles/position that may arise on the rare occasions they do. Values largely ignored by management when dealing with staff. Collaboration/ initiative squashed, as a result very poor morale and increasingly high turnover. Burn and churn attitude from management team towards staff.

A steep learning curve. Overall, disappointing
The good thingsThe values of the organisation. Working with and learning from clients. Friendly, caring coworkers. Salary packaging. Professional development opportunities. Embracing diversity and inclusion.
The challengesUnqualified and overstretched management that were often unapproachable and seemed to be out of touch with person-centred, trauma-informed values. Psychological safety was low. Burnout high. Poor support for a high client contact role, especially when dealing with distress on a daily basis. Supervision not appropriate and very scarcely offered. Bureaucratic environment with little room for collaboration or input. Poor team culture, social aspect non existent. Large organisation so the amount of knowledge to retain is very high, but the job training was poor. Felt segregated from the rest of the organisation. Overall, I didn’t feel valued as a team member, safe to speak up, that I could contribute my skills and knowledge in a meaningful way or develop in the role without more adequate support. A real shame.

The good thingsAnglicare WA's values are evident in everything they do making it a really great place to work. The organisation is very focused on ensuring that both staff and clients are valued and supported. The management is open in communications and the place very definitely walks the talk in terms of diversity and inclusion.
The challengesIt's a not-for-profit ... so some equipment is not the latest and greatest, but they are trying to fix this, I think.

An organisation that does not practice stated values...
The good thingsCo-workers who care about clients & each other
The challengesManagement - limited leadership skills, no understanding of programs being managed. Senior management isolate themselves and do not engage with front-line staff. No support and limited professional supervision with unqualified managers/coordinators. Less annual leave than comparable NGOs. No opportunities for training or career advancement. Limited diversity and almost entirely male senior management. Technology does not support role - out-dated, slow and frustrating. Management does not live/work by the stated values of the organisation.

Skill building but burn out central
The good thingsGreat positive co-workers who strive to support and empower the vulnerable.
The challengesOften burn out great staff or have staff turnovers - make a lot of promises but rarely follow through. Lack of resourcing means high expectations of staff to do extra work but they expect them to do it for free.
