What’s it like working at Australian Christian College?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Australian Christian College is characterised by its strong Christian ethos and supportive community atmosphere, where staff appreciate the family-like environment and opportunity to work with well-behaved students. Many employees value the professional development opportunities available, particularly in curriculum areas and leadership positions, while the school's commitment to student wellbeing and Christ-centered education is consistently highlighted as a positive aspect.

However, the institution faces several operational challenges, including the need to manage work-life balance due to substantial workload expectations. There are opportunities to improve communication between leadership and staff, particularly regarding school procedures and decision-making processes. As a growing institution, the school experiences some resource limitations and adaptation challenges that require flexibility and patience from staff members.

I do not recommend this school for those who want to further careers in education, or those who’ve had prior experience working in a more professional working environment.
The good thingsKind staff and students
The challengesThe lack of communication between leadership and staff was terrible. They made it very difficult to make complaints, as it was seen as Un - Christ like. It was more like working for a religious institution than a school. I found it very difficult to be professional in my role as a student learning support officer, as my role kept changing and my job description was not made clear. I also found it very frustrating to build professional working relationships with staff members, as many teachers had family members working/ attending the school causing a disadvantage towards those who didn’t. I also witnessed a lot of unnecessary touching between staff and students which was quite disturbing. The level of unprofessionalism was just not what I expected.

Run like a corporate enterprise, not a school.
    The good thingsColleagues are friendly.
The challengesNot family friendly, executive staff set an example of working late hours and glorify this. Top-down restrictive management and lack of opportunities for growth or recognition of expertise. For a rapidly growing school, not open to change and feedback from staff.

    Recipe for burnout.
The good thingsGood culture within the team.
The challengesMany hours of overtime expected with no time in lieu/overtime paid. Unsupportive management. Workload increased while support decreased.
