Poor workplace culture, inadequate management support, unrealistic expectations, old fleet issues.
The good thingsGood Money On Weekend and Public Holidays.
The challengesMy experience as a bus driver was extremely challenging due to workplace culture, fleet condition, and lack of genuine support rather than the driving role itself. I experienced repeated inappropriate and unprofessional conduct from depot management, including misrepresentation of incidents and conversations. Some team leaders appeared to actively look for issues against drivers, resulting in public embarrassment and negative records being placed on files without fair or transparent processes. The bus fleet has ongoing mechanical and comfort issues, with some vehicles having very high mileage. These issues affected drivers’ health and wellbeing. When drivers raised concerns, they were not guided or supported. Instead of addressing fleet problems, drivers were sometimes told to move to another depot. Drivers are constantly monitored through GPS and onboard cameras, yet there is no equivalent transparency or accountability in management interactions.

One was enough, Caution is urged before applying for this role.
The good thingsI enjoyed learning about bus operations, driving skills, and the onboard technology. The training provided valuable insight into the public transport system, and several trainers were knowledgeable and supportive.
The challengesThe program structure often involved long waiting periods and inconsistent communication between HQ and depots. Some trainers were overly critical of minor mistakes and lacked cultural awareness, particularly toward trainees from non-English backgrounds. Feedback on driving performance was sometimes contradictory, making it difficult to track progress. Administrative processes were rigid, with limited notice for roster changes, impacting work-life balance. Pressure to pass assessments on the first attempt was unrealistic and contributed to unnecessary stress.
