stressful..... my schedule of flexibility and the $$ is the only reason I stay... I can have planned time off it doesn't matter if I'm not there..
The good thingsThe people I work with who help me get through the day.
The challengesThe unrealistic work load. The build up of work and constant complaints. Micromanagement.. the need to control every aspect of your day.. from your work load to your breaks. If your 'stat' are up to expectation you are allowed to work overtime when it's arranged. The sad thing is there is so much work and no one to do it.

16 years, first 10 were proud to work there, in later years was absolutely ashamed.
The good thingsThe good things were few and far between. Decent enough renumeration.
The challengesOut of touch management. A culture of toxic positivity. Constant moving of goalposts. Lack of care for long term employees- huge turnover due to Covid burnout and shoddy management.

Working for the Department of Social Security was one of the best jobs I've had, thoroughly loved typing in the pool, enjoyed the people working there and speaking with clients over the telephone.
The good thingsEnjoyed the keyboard work and telphone customer relations. Work hours were flexible. Fellow employees were friendly.
    The challengesSometimes deadlines.

I was good at my job and enjoyed it until the focus shifted from customer service.
The good thingsHelping customers, identifying problems and solving them
The challengesThe business moved away from customer service and into self service and work was more micro managed. Roles changed from using your experience and expertise to moving to other roles

Great workplace to have on the resume, however it can be a difficult place to work and can't be recommended for a career stay.
The good thingsProcedures are very clear and the reference tools are well updated
The challengesThe processes are constantly changing, and you are often speaking directly to struggling people and denying them services. Additionally, the reducing budget for centrelink staff makes a hostile negotiating process for the EAP. the last EAP was meant to last 3 years and took 4 years to negotiate, and still was terrible for the workers.

A little bubble of unreality, out of touch with the real world of digital design and e learning.
The good thingsClean place, professional people, friendly.
The challengesThe Management, just worried about keeping a good face, holding onto their jobs. Basic computers and equipment, not great for my type of work.

A terrible toxic place to work with management who aren't supportive who only really monitor the bottom line.
The good thingsThe colleagues that make the best of a pretty ordinary and quite stressful environment.
The challengesThe micromanagement particular in the Call Centre environment where every minute was being monitored. The management who have no real clues about the real work that is done by staff at the grass roots level.

Not ideal for those who value consistency
The good thingsThe training was lengthy but without access to the online environment was time wasted. Social themes and raffles that ease pressures were great.
The challengesGetting a straight answer or direction. Multiple managers all with multiple correct processes ie guess which one is right on any given day! Having floor walkers argue over how a situation is treated and having to decide which one to follow first week on the phones set the scene for what it would be like. A few months later and it was too much so i left.
