Not worth the time or the energy
The good thingsMet some great people, life long friends
The challengesInsane work load. Extremely money hungry company, you are just a number to them, they give out no additional hours but won't hesitate to give out 10 extra tasks a day on top of the already unmanageable work load. Do not work in Visual Merchandising if you want to be recognised as an equal. VMs are the back bone of the business and store presentation/sales, there is 1 VM to 4 sales managers per store, and the VM is paid the least, whilst arguably having the biggest individual work load. On top of this, you will work with staff members who have had upwards of 10 file notes on their record and will never actually be punished for this, in fact as long as City Beach is your only personality trait, you'll easily be promoted no matter how bad your track record is. It took me far too long to realise I wasn't being treated the way | deserved. Also, get everything in writing, they will tell you you're getting a raise and not follow through cause they 'forgot'. A lot of lessons learnt.

I left a retail store to venture out and see what something else was like and I wish I never did. The managers are overworked and highly underpaid. Area managers only ever on the phone when Instore which isn’t great for customer experience The absolute stress that is put on these somewhat young teens to hit sale target and report back hourly it is absolutely disgusting. Being micromanaged and watched by head office in Brisbane. Area manager would call the store and ask to speak to me ( phone is located at register) and yes not face to face a phone call!! Only to be written up for being late on my first week, even tho I live in rockingham and I worked in Rockingham previously so driving to cockburn was out of the ordinary for me. I think it is very unprofessional having an area manager who is married to a people and culture coordinator in the same region I’m sorry but I don’t like being the topic of breakfast in the morning. Some really big business flaws
    The good thingsDiscount was alright
The challengesArea managers only ever on the phone when they are in store not appealing to the customers eyes No culture Micromanagement is ridiculous No empathy Disrespectful

Paid well, learnt a lot about larger team size management, but the expectations of the head office and regional staff make it hard to enjoy being a manager there.
The good thingsAbove award salary for Store Managers, obtainable bonus scheme.
The challengesAdhering to rostering allocations, company has unrealistic expectations but will limit your staffing resources to maintain bottom dollar.
