The guys and girls you meet at City Farmers are a very special breed. They’re not afraid of getting a bit of dirt under their fingernails, and they’re trained in hands-on pet, garden and pool care. Each member of our team is handpicked for their know-how, their down-to-earth attitudes and their willingness to get stuck in. And they do get stuck in. When you sell mulches, soils and other smelly stuff (you really don’t want to know where our organic fertilisers come from) you can’t expect to stay clean. But for our team, mucking-in is half the fun. Just don’t take one of them out on a date before they’ve had a shower.Source: This is an extract from the company’s own website.

What’s it like working at City Farmers?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at City Farmers enjoy the opportunity to interact with animals and their owners on a daily basis, as well as the supportive team environment and the chance to work with friendly, open-minded colleagues. The company provides comprehensive training and opportunities for continuous learning about various aspects of pet care and products.

However, some potential challenges include concerns about upper management and their level of support for front-line staff, as well as a perception that the workload can be demanding, with tasks and responsibilities sometimes exceeding the allocated time frames or staffing levels. Dealing with difficult customers can also be a challenge, and meeting sales targets and KPIs can be a source of pressure, particularly in customer-facing roles.

City Farmers was a good introduction to the work force, retail and customer service however, I will never recommend anyone to apply for a position with this company.
The good things1. Most of the team is caring and there for you. 2. Team members have input into store operations, decor and devices to better their experience and the customers.
The challenges1. Casuals end up doing managerial duties and not enough staff are allocated to allow for the tasks to be done within their allocated time frames. 2. No standing mats were provided so your legs became tired easily and poor choice of location made stock and delivery management difficult. 3. I was left felling worthless at the end of their career with this company and I feel they do not support their staff as much as should or could. 4. No staff parking is provided and it is in an area that is known to be unsafe, as well as not enough customer parking being available. Again, perhaps due to the location.
