What’s it like working at Drakes Supermarkets?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Drakes Supermarkets appreciate forming strong friendships and working with supportive colleagues in a collaborative team environment. Many value the opportunities for career progression and the flexible work hours that accommodate university studies and personal commitments. Employees also note the friendly and professional culture, with some reporting good managers who are understanding and provide helpful feedback, making them feel valued as individuals.

However, there are some potential challenges, including understaffing that can lead to heavy workloads and pressure to maintain high standards with limited resources. Some employees note that communication from upper management could be improved, with changing priorities and inconsistent messaging. Rostering can be inconsistent, with shift cancellations and irregular hours for casual employees. Additionally, pay rates may be lower compared to similar roles elsewhere, and the fast-paced environment requires adaptability as the company grows rapidly. Some employees also mention that training and onboarding could be more comprehensive.

Super toxic workplace and it has affected my mental health so much.
The good thingsThe bakery is a fun department and I've found some really good friends
The challengesVery toxic workplace. Makes you feel bad for taking sick days. Makes you feel bad if you can't work a shift that you didn't get rostered on originally. It makes you do management work but you are only a casual.

    Inconsistent with their communication skills
The good thingsThe store gets busy sometimes, as I enjoy a balanced work environment from busy to quiet. It is easy to communicate with managers, but they won't listen on the first try, meaning you'll have to give them a while in advance.
The challengesThe managers need to improve on their communication skills and rostering, in my experience they have overstaffed quiet times, and understaffed busy times. They have trouble accommodating for autism, unlike other stores who have "quiet hours" and dimmed lights from time to time.
